Lake Zurich, IL Pay:
$30-35/hr
Shift:
1st, M-F Position Summary This role is responsible for inspecting manufactured products to ensure they meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements. The Quality Inspector plays a key role in maintaining product integrity by identifying defects and supporting continuous improvement in manufacturing processes. Key Responsibilities Safety Follow all plant safety policies, procedures, and guidelines Understand emergency procedures, including responses to power outages, equipment failures, and workplace incidents Properly wear and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) Demonstrate knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures Report safety concerns, incidents, and injuries to supervision immediately Quality Inspection & Control Inspect products for defects in accordance with defined quality standards Differentiate between major and minor defects related to product fit, form, and function Determine product acceptance (Pass/Fail) based on specifications Notify supervision of potential quality issues or nonconforming products Provide approved samples for machine boards and production meetings Conduct routine quality audits per machine and shift following established procedures Support development of sampling plans for re-inspection activities Perform first-piece, last-piece, and changeover approvals Conduct process control checks and GMP/Food Safety audits (serve as lead internal auditor when required) Data, Testing & Documentation Perform quality testing using laboratory and measurement equipment Calibrate gauges and maintain calibration records Accurately enter data into Excel or SPC systems Conduct basic statistical analysis to support quality decisions Prepare and maintain quality reports, including rework and re-inspection results Generate Certificates of Analysis as required Process sample requests in a timely manner Process Improvement & Compliance Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve inspection efficiency and product quality Interpret quality standards and product specifications Participate in startup and product qualification processes as a quality subject matter expert Assist in defining and refining HACCP plans Support CAPA activities and contribute to root cause analysis Coordinate and manage held materials and rework processes Maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and SQF standards Leadership & Team Support Communicate daily with supervisors and plant personnel regarding quality concerns Train and mentor new employees on inspection techniques and quality standards Lead or support teams in improving inspection processes Work independently with minimal supervision on daily tasks and quality decisions Make informed disposition decisions by balancing risk, defect severity, and business needs Serve as backup to the SQF Practitioner Assume responsibilities of the Quality Technician Lead when required and approved Qualifications Strong communication skills Intermediate computer proficiency (Excel/SPC systems) Ability to read, write, and speak English Knowledge of food safety principles HACCP certification required Minimum of one (1) year experience with SQF (certification preferred) Education & Experience High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required Completion of HACCP and SQF Practitioner training is preferred
