Radiological Technical Training Associate Brookhaven National Laboratory United States, York, Upton 20 Brookhaven Ave (Show on map) May 19, 2026 The Radiological Control Division at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is seeking a Training Specialist. This position reports directly to the Radiological Control Division manager and will be responsible for the development and delivery of technical training to the Radiological Control Division staff, supporting division assessment activities, and the coordination of division procedures. The Radiological Control Division provides radiological expertise through field-deployed technical personnel. It maintains an accredited personnel monitoring service, an instrumentation and calibration facility, and expertise in radiological engineering and nuclear materials management. Position Description Responsible to lead and manage the continuing training program for the Laboratory's Radiological Control Technicians. The primary duties of this role are to serve as the Subject Matter Expert for radiological control training and qualifications. This role ensures RCD staff are trained and qualified to perform radiological identification, monitoring, detection and the control of radiological operations. The responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing staff for oral boards and successful completion of DOE core radiological testing requirements. This role will regularly train staff in the use of specialized instrumentation and equipment. Serves as lead for interpreting DOE Radiological Standards and establishing accepted techniques, procedures and operational practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Review training and qualification program requirements. Represent department/division training needs and priorities for Lab-wide training and qualification initiatives. Assist in the assessment and documentation of job, system, and location training and qualification needs. Conduct an annual review of organizational JTA links. Maintain current training and qualification information for organization's staff. Validate and maintain data in the Brookhaven Training Management System. Communicate training requirements and activities to organizational staff. Administer challenge exams in accordance with proctoring requirements. Organize and Support Divisional Oral Board examinations. Coordinate training activities for organization. Develop, Organize, and Deliver Continuing Training modules for Radiation Protection Operations (RPO) Staff. Act as liaison between Radiological Control Division (RCD)and Training and Qualification Management (TQM) and other departments and divisions for RCD training initiatives and activities. Maintain organization's training records and documentation. Maintain training certifications of employees. Maintain documentation/records for department-administered training. Prepare for and interface with auditors/assessors Assist in the development and evaluation of Lab-wide training programs. Assist in the development, implementation, periodic review and/or evaluation of the occupational safety and health management system. Support RPO in coordination and collection of internal surveillance reports. Provide RCD Manager with monthly training status reports. Support Division Procedures Coordinator to ensure timely reviews.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires the equivalence of a technical institute or associate degree in a related field. Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible related work experience. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills required. Detailed understanding of DOE radiological protection standards and federal regulations (10 CFR835, Occupational Radiation Protection).Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Previous experience working in operational radiation protection and/or detection. Current registration with National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT).
