Primary Activities and Responsibilities Conducts or assists in the investigation and filing of cases in criminal law violations and company matters, traffic accidents, and other crimes: obtains evidence and complies information regarding these crimes, arrest persons related to crimes, prepares cases for filing of charges, protects and preserves crime scenes, collects physical evidence, photographs and/or sketches crimes scenes and accidents, testifies in court, and other related activates. Process and interpret data and written technical information. Enter, transmit, update and/or retrieve information via computer terminal. Plan and organize work assignments. Schedule work tasks according to their importance and adjust schedule as priorities change. Identifies and reports maintenance needs of assigned equipment. Drive and operate patrol car for extended periods of time. Patrol and Inspect rail yards, buildings, signals, track equipment, bridges, and levees for security and safety breaches. Monitors and inspects high value shipments and reports irregularities such as broken seals on railcars and theft or damage to lading. Performs self-initiated activates such as traffic stops and trespasser contacts in accordance with Department goals. Report security hazards and render first aid when necessary. Maintains ongoing proficiency level in firearms, patrol vehicles and other related job equipment. Prepares and presents clear and accurate written and oral reports either handwritten or computer generated. Notify appropriate source (Federal, State or Local Law Enforcement Agencies, Coast Guard , and 911) when situation exceeds their jurisdiction and scope. Comply with company and federal safety rules regulations, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action. Successfully complete annual training requirements to ensure that law enforcement licensing requirements are maintained and company safety standards meet. Performs related work as required by the Department and the Company as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma /GED 21 years of age or older Valid Driver's License Able to read, write and communicate in English. A citizen of the United States. Be of good character, having no felony convictions, pending indictments, or certain misdemeanor offenses including those involving aggressive or violent behavior (i.e. domestic violence, criminal assault, etc.), disregard for the safety of others, or the misuse of deadly weapons. Must be currently certified under the Missouri Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) having completed a minimum 600 hours from an accredited Basic Training Academy in Missouri or currently certified in Illinois having completed a minimum 400 hours from an accredited Basic Training Academy in Illinois and certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a Police Officer Basic Competencies Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications-both general and technical) Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions) Reasoning skills (problem solving and trouble shooting skills) Physical Requirements Carrying up to 40 pounds Occasionally/Periodically may lift, carry, push, pull or drag up to 150 pounds. Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection. Balancing/climbing Sitting for extended periods of time Walking on uneven surfaces Subject to life threatening conditions and situations associated with law enforcement activities in a railroad environment. Environmental Conditions Work outside in all weather conditions, on uneven surfaces, around loud noise and fumes, poor lighting and on occasion at elevated heights. Shifts/Hours Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work. Pay Rate Entry Rate $391.64 daily rate. (12 hour work day) Full Rate $522.19 daily rate. (12 hour work day) Overtime rate of time and a half (1½) is paid over (84) hours in each two (2) week pay period based on a twelve (12) hour work schedule. Training Company paid on the job training (which may require travel) provided. Probationary Period 60 Days Union Membership This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, union membership and monthly dues are required.
