Summary/Objective:
The Teacher Assistant works under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher and together with other members of the educational team to implement student IEPs. Teacher Assistants work with the teacher to maintain a clean and efficient classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
Essential Functions/Duties:
Data Collection. Implementation of general de-escalation, behavior management and restraint programs. General classroom duties as directed by the classroom teacher. Lifting, transfers and positioning of students. Assisting with activities of daily living and personal care. Assistance with routine classroom clerical and maintenance activities. Lunch, transportation and recess duties as assigned by the classroom teacher. Implementation of inclusive activities as directed by the classroom teacher. Implementation of classroom data management systems. Implementation of academic and applied behavior analysis programs per student IEP. Communicates student issues and concerns to teachers and team members. Participation in community experience, vocational placements and field trips. Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.
Competency:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have a strong core knowledge and experience working with children who have severe disabilities. Experience in a special education classroom setting. Must be able to provide a safe and motivating classroom environment that promotes and supports students' academic, social, behavioral and daily living skills. •Rate/Salary is determined by educational degree and years of experience.
