NA Job Summary The Recreation Aid assists with the supervision and delivery of a variety of Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department programs and facility operations. Responsibilities may include teaching and assisting with youth recreational sports such as tennis, pickleball, soccer, and nature-based programs, as well as helping organize and support community special events. The Recreation Aid may also supervise department facilities including the Larson Nature Center, 5th Street Gym, Larson Ice Center, and other recreation sites. This position provides customer service, ensures participant and facility safety, and supports positive, inclusive recreational experiences for the community. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 15 years of age. Basic knowledge of recreation programs, sports, and facility operations. Ability to communicate effectively and work with children, adults, and the public. Must be a United States citizen. This position does not support sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching or assisting with youth sports, nature programs, or recreation activities. Experience working with the public in a customer service or recreation setting. Experience handling cash or operating a point-of-sale system. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Major Duties-(Essential Function) Assist with planning, instruction, and supervision of youth recreational sports programs, including tennis, pickleball, soccer, and nature-based activities. Provide supervision of recreation facilities such as the Larson Nature Center, 5th Street Gym, and the Larson Ice Center. Operate the point-of-sale system to process program registrations, rentals, and other transactions. Monitor facility use and program participation to ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants. Assist with community special events, including setup, coordination, and cleanup. Provide excellent customer service to patrons, participants, and renters; respond to questions and concerns promptly. Open and close facilities, ensuring they are clean, secure, and ready for programs or rentals. Enforce department rules and safety procedures in a fair and professional manner. Maintain accurate attendance, activity, and incident records as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Physical Demands/Work Environment (Essential Function) Work is performed indoors and outdoors at various recreation facilities and parks. This position requires moderate physical activity, including setting up sports or program equipment, moving supplies, and assisting with events. May be exposed to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain. Work schedule includes evenings and weekends based on program and facility needs. Mental Complexity/Interpersonal Contacts (Essential Function) Requires effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with children, adults, staff, and the public. Must demonstrate patience, responsibility, and professionalism when leading youth programs or enforcing rules. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in routine and emergency situations. Must be dependable, organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
