Job Description
DESCRIPTION
This position is a full-time tenure track, 10-month classroom teaching assignment in the Health and Safety Science Division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in onsite, online and hybrid format, evening, and/or Saturday classes. This position will be reassigned approximately 20% load corresponding to approximately 5 hours per week to carry out the duties of the Assistant Nursing Program Director. The Assistant Director provides operational, curricular, and compliance support to ensure the program meets all requirements set forth by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and relevant accreditation agencies. The Assistant Director may assume delegated responsibilities in the absence of the Director. Responsibilities also include but are not limited to meeting and maintaining program accreditation requirements, systematic review of program effectiveness among didactic, laboratory, and clinical components, student recruitment, committee assignments and serving as a liaison with health care facilitiesREPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Teach 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester in Registered Nursing using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies. Maintain 5 office hours per week, including regular posted office hours, which are accessible to students. Responsible for preparation time. The assistant program director assist in the DON in developing, implementing, and managing a nursing program, including its fiscal planning. Prepare the nursing program budget with faculty input. Administer fiscal resources allocated to the nursing program. Leads and coordinates the faculty meetings; yearly program review; curricular planning, development, and implementation; student learning outcomes: data collection and writing action plans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, and implementation; evaluation of educational programs; and college governance to advance the college's mission and strategic goals. Participate in faculty professional development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives. Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc. Provide an environment conducive to effective learning. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work. Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Travel between District locations is also expected. Perform other program director-related duties as assigned. Assist in coordinating daily operations of the ADN program in alignment with institutional policies and regulatory requirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Per the Board of Registered Nursing and Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing, and California Code of Regulations Title 16 §1425, the Assistant Director must have the following education/experience: A master's degree in nursing or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education or administration. A current California Registered Nursing (RN) License Two (2) years' experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure registered nursing programs; and One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse. Must have one year of full-time experience in acute care (hospital) setting within the last 5 years or must be willing and able to remediate or currently approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing to teach medical-surgical nursing, and one or more of the following: maternity nursing, pediatric nursing, and/or geriatric nursing. In addition, successful candidate(s) may be required to remediate to (become approved to teach) other areas of nursing.Antelope Valley College Equivalency:
