How to Apply Please send a short message including: Your background and experience Relevant hardware or build projects you have worked on Availability over the summer Any photos or portfolio links, if available About the Project The Hawk is a mobile feral cat feeder designed to accomplish the following goals: Eliminate litter and waste from feral cat feedings Monitor feral cat colonies Reunite lost pets with their owners The Hawk features: Microchip door scanner Microchip controlled food bowls Email notifications with cloud connectivity We already have a working prototype, and all circuitry is functional. We now need help installing and integrating the system into The Hawk base. The core build has been partially assembled. We now need support completing component housing, reconnecting subsystems, and ensuring everything is safely and reliably integrated. This is a community-driven, nonprofit-supported project focused on learning, collaboration, and building something meaningful for real-world impact. What We Need Help With Designing and/or implementing hardware housing or enclosures Reconnecting previously assembled electrical and mechanical components Installing and integrating existing functional prototype circuitry onto the base system Troubleshooting hardware integration issues Supporting safe and clean system assembly Ideal Background We are looking for someone with experience in: Electrical engineering or hardware engineering Embedded systems or electromechanical builds Wiring, soldering, and system integration Prototyping and enclosure design (3D printing or fabrication a plus) Professional engineers, experienced hobbyists, retired engineers, and advanced students are all welcome. Commitment Flexible schedule - We are hoping to have this part completed by the end of September latest, and you can work on your own schedule.
Note:
We were, and maybe again, a Capstone Project with The University of Portland. This can be discussed in further detail later. Why This Matters This is a chance to contribute to a real engineering build supporting a nonprofit effort. The work is practical, collaborative, and meaningful, not just theoretical.
