Reporter - Full TimeLos Altos Town Crier - Serving the community since 1947The Los Altos Town Crier, an independent, privately owned local newspaper with a weekly circulation of 15,500, is seeking an experienced full-time reporter to cover local news.

The ideal candidate is passionate about community journalism, skilled in AP Style, and committed to reporting with accuracy, fairness, and creativity while telling the stories of our community..Key ResponsibilitiesReport and write news stories while developing longer-form enterprise pieces.

Pitch story ideas that inform and engage local residentsCover school board meetings, city council meetings, public meetings, and community eventsFile stories on deadline for our weekly newsletterDevelop and maintain productive source relationshipsCollaborate with other reporters, editors, and visual journalistsTake photos as neededAssist occasionally with community events, forums, and outreach activitiesBe available for some evening and weekend work, including monitoring breaking newsRequirementsPrevious professional reporting experienceStrong writing, reporting, and interviewing skillsProficiency in AP StyleComfort filing Public Records Act (PRA) requests and pursuing public recordsStrong organizational skills and a proactive attitudeDemonstrated passion for local journalismExcellent news judgmentStrong news writing skills under deadline pressureJuggle multiple stories of varying complexity on a weekly deadlineRegular and reliable attendance

Benefits and Compensation:

The wage range is $41,000 to $45,000 per year. Pay is based on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
