Requirements Job Overview Research Specialist 3, Communication, Culture, & Technology Program - Georgetown University. The position is for a Research Specialist 3, Civic Education Research Lab (CERL)/The Graduate School—Joint Office of Graduate Studies/Georgetown University who will work on research tasks associated with grant-related activities of the James Madison Legacy Project Expansion (JMLPE) and the Integrated Civic Competencies (ICC) projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education being conducted by Dr. Diana Owen of the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) program at Georgetown University. The Research Specialist 3 has the ability to conduct and disseminate research at the highest level of professional competence. The position will produce charts/graphs/tables and slide decks of results, regularly update the CERL website, conduct and transcribe recorded student and teacher interviews, and produce reports based on the research. The Citizen and the Constitution (WTP) curriculum intervention on their students. The ICC grant supports collection of data and analysis to determine the effectiveness of the Project Citizen teacher professional learning program and curriculum. The We the People and Project Citizen professional learning programs and the WTP and Project Citizen curricula are designed and implemented by the Center for Civic Education (CCE), a non-profit, non-partisan education organization located in Calabasas, CA. This position will work closely with Dr. Owen on designing research, conducting studies, disseminating research results, and organizing related events and symposia. The position will establish and maintain relationships with state partners in monitoring projects and disseminating research results. The grants specify that the research results will be widely disseminated to different constituencies, including educators, policy-makers, and scholars. Strong data visualization and graphic design competencies, including skilled use of CANVA, are required. Additional duties include, but are not limited to: Managing CERL's public-facing communication and disseminating research findings to diverse stakeholders, including educators, policy-makers, state coordinators, and researchers Managing the CERL website Providing content and technical support for CERL's Substack Performing tasks related to research design, data collection, data cleaning, and conducting basic and advanced statistical analysis of survey data using SPSS at the highest level of competence Producing charts/graphs/tables/slide decks of research protocols and results Producing reports based on the research that are disseminated to stakeholders, including educators, academics, and policy-makers Supervising and mentoring Georgetown University undergraduate and graduate student research assistants Sharing research findings and content knowledge at professional meetings and publications Work Interactions The Research Specialist 3 position supports the administrative, research, evaluation, and research dissemination functions of the JMLPE and ICC. The position reports directly to Dr. Diana Owen, Professor in the CCT program, who is the Director of CERL and principal investigator for the JMLPE and ICC research programs. The position will have supervisory responsibilities, including supervising undergraduate and graduate CERL research assistants. The position is central to carrying out the research required by the JMLPE and ICC grants. It is integral to the research function of Georgetown University and to the goals of supporting large, grant-funded projects. Requirements and Qualifications Doctoral or Masters degree in relevant field and 7 plus years of a combination of work experience and education. Operates with minimal supervision. Demonstrated strong research, analytical, and writing competencies. Strong statistical methodology skills, especially experience analyzing large survey research and experimental data. Proficiency in SPSS and Excel. Strong data visualization and graphic design skills. Proficiency in CANVA. Demonstrated ability to perform independently, communicate scientific results effectively, and participate in a highly collaborative environment. Must possess a strong work ethic and be self-motivated to learn and become familiar with primary scientific literature. Knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods. Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills are essential Attention to detail is necessary. Direct experience with K-12 education, including teaching experience. Preferred Requirements At least two years of hands-on experience conducting research on K-12 civic education Strong knowledge of American politics and government Familiarity with the American educational system. Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $47,586.00 - $87,558.13 Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
