Job Description

The Residence Life Coordinator is a full-time staff member responsible for community leadership and community programming at ASMS. The Residence Life Coordinator works closely with the staff and students to enhance the safety and security of the ASMS living-learning community. The Residence Life Coordinator will assist with training and organizational initiatives.

Assistant Director of Residence Life Required Minimum Qualifications:
Two (2) years of residential experience. Proven, verifiable experience working with adolescents. Acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in education, psychology, or social work or related field.
Classification:
Exempt, salary, full-time, 11-month employee. Essential Functions Serve as the primary point of contact for students living in the residential community. Serve in the residence life staff on-call rotation and be accessible to students during on-call hours. Participate in weekly Residence Life staff meetings. Complete regular rounds each day of the residence halls and common areas. Serves as the primary mediator in roommate or hall conflicts. Assist in developing and executing a residential programming curriculum that complements the co-curricular and curricular programming of other ASMS departments. Inform Assistant Director of Residence Life and other members of the Student Affairs team of emerging student issues. Serves as an on-campus point-of-contact for emergencies including, but not limited to, severe weather, student illness, and student mental health. Manage on-campus student populations during summer programs. Ensure that students are keeping their personal and community living space in the residence halls free of health and safety issues. Enforce student conduct and residence life policies for students such as study hours, quiet hours, in-dorm, and in-room regulations. Plan and conduct any necessary evening meetings of campus residents. Communicate residence life information, updates, and other relevant information to students, faculty, and staff. Handle immediate disciplinary response for minor student conduct violations and communicate issues with the Assistant Director for Residence Life and/or the Dean of Students. Record and maintain detailed records on duty rounds, fire drills, student conversations, and student disciplinary meetings. Complete trainings, as assigned, with the Registered Nurse (RN). Assist with student medication administration as directed by the RN. Assist in transporting students in school vehicles to pre-approved locations. Perform other duties as assigned by the ASMS President/Vice President/Dean/Director. Required Skills Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with others. Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment Ability to follow instructions, both oral and written. Dress appropriately and maintain a neat appearance at all times. Must remain courteous and professional at all times. Maintains a coachable spirit and a willingness to learn. Knowledgeable of adolescent behavior Maintains confidentiality of student issues. Terms of Employment 11-month position which includes training prior to the beginning of the new school year and summer program(s). Live-on required. Single occupancy only. Annual appointment. Must be able to commit to a lifestyle free from alcohol and tobacco use. The Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 require criminal history background checks and establish suitability criteria for individuals working in positions that involve children, including public or residential school settings like ASMS (Alabama School of Math and Science).
