RESIDENT CARE WORKERS WHISPERING PINES HOMES SUMMARY
To follow directions of the Home Manager and comply with instructions for carrying out the individualized service plan for each consumer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in providing a normalization program to promote the realization of each consumer's full potential for independence and self-fulfillment. Assist consumers with the daily living skills, socialization skills, interpersonal communication, and recreation. Be knowledgeable of the consumers' basic rights as citizens of the community and assist them in exercising those rights in appropriate and beneficial ways. Act as role models and advocates for the consumers in a manner acceptable to Whispering Pines. Instruct, organize, assist and direct consumers in their daily living activities and medication passing in accordance with individual program plans and day programming plans. Instruct, organize, assist and direct consumers regarding personal hygiene, the care of clothing, laundry, personal property, and the development of social skills. Instruct, demonstrate, direct and assist consumers to enable them to develop community living skills. This includes building the consumers' awareness of various community services, e.g., health care, entertainment, and financial services, developing acceptable social skills that will allow them to effectively use the services, and transporting to community services and activities. Instruct, organize, assist and direct residents in developing maximal respect for their home in ways that are conducive to the development of a cooperative family atmosphere. This includes direct involvement in developing skills in household cleaning, meal preparation and clean-up, minor repairs and maintenance of the home and yard, laundering, and group-living skills, such as mutual respect and manners. Know and follow emergency procedures for fire, accident, and other serious incidents affecting consumers' welfare. Actively participate in staff meetings, workshops and special meetings, as may be required. Revised 08/30/2012 Approved 09/27/2012 Document correctly all required information as directed by DHS licensing regulations, Whispering Pines and RMHA policies and procedures. Adhere to and carry out the principles outlined in Whispering Pines Administrative Manual. Implement all policies, procedures, guidelines and legal commitments to consumers as required by the Mental Health Code, DHS licensing regulations, and Whispering Pines Board of Trustees. Perform any reasonable additional duties delegated to them by the Home Manager that are not specifically provided for in this job description, but that are deemed necessary for the overall achievement of the program's objectives and goals. EXPERIENCE
High school diploma and experience in residential care preferred.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Three written references from responsible persons and be able to substantiate good character and responsibility in previous employment and school undertaking. Willing to undergo special training from the Home Manager or Director of Training or responsible mental health agency experienced in the care of developmentally disabled consumers. Must be 18 years old. Have current driver's license and have good driving record.
PHYSCIAL DEMANDS
3. Have the physical agility (agility, strength, endurance) to lift or support or transfer and/or assist in the lifting or supporting or transferring of an individual on a prescribed or as needed basis. 4. Have the physical agility to physically interact with individuals and to monitor and/or direct behavior.
