Job Division:
The Community Group Homes Department at the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System The mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. Programs provided include inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long-term psychiatric are a coordination with the total system of care in Louisiana. ELMHS is looking for a Residential Services Specialist who will support residents in their daily routines and will help them to build the skills needed to successfully transition back into the community. ELMHS is also looking for someone who will combine learned skills in communication and de-escalation to help promote safety and maintain a therapeutic environment for residents in our community homes. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
Instructs, guides, and assists residents with routine and elementary self-help skills, group activities, indoor, and outdoor recreational activities, and hygiene. Provides care according to the treatment plan with positive behavioral management methods and participates in client reviews and staffing. Administers or supervises the administration of prescribed medications in accordance with specific instructions and drug orders once Drug Administration Course is successfully completed. Escorts and supervises residents during off-ground activities, doctor visits, shopping; provides accountability for assigned residents at all times. Monitors group home for cleanliness and reports needed repairs and maintenance to supervisor in a timely manner. Assists supervisory staff with employee orientation and provides input regarding residential services specialist trainees. Attends in-service training as required and completes annual competencies during employee birth month. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisory staff within the limits of certification and level of competency; and according to established and accepted standards of care, accreditation, and licensure requirements.

Appointment Type:
The position may be filled as a Probational (open to all qualified applicants) or as a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees). Current permanent status classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected.
Career Progression:
This position may be filled as a Residential Services Specialist 1 or 2 depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
Compensation:
Residential Services Specialist 1
Special Entrance Rate:
$972.00/Biweekly $12.15/Hour Residential Services Specialist 2
Special Entrance Rate:
$1040.00/Biweekly $13.00/Hour Retention Pay is $1.50/hr. for each hour worked Longevity Pay is $1.00/hr. for each hour worked
