Full Time
  • Residential Youth Specialist (RYS)
SUPERVISOR
Residential Staff Supervisor HOURS:
40+ hours per week | Sunday-Thursday, 3p-11p
CLASSIFICATION
Non-Exempt At-Will Position Residential Youth Specialists (RYS) provide care to teens and young adults ages 15 to 21 in the care of Palmetto Place's Unaccompanied Youth Program (Campus B). RYS are expected to work in harmony with other shifts to ensure that the emotional and physical needs of our residents are met, to use common sense in situations for which there are few or no precedents and keep the day-to-day operations of the house functioning smoothly. Duties include all regular daily activities including but not limited to:
SECOND SHIFT
(Sunday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.)
Household:
Prep kitchen/dining room for snack and dinner, laundry, support residents with chores, clean living areas and outside areas, monitor/dispense medications, provide residents with personal care items as needed
Transportation:
take residents to school or pick up from school, take residents to appointments, activities, and jobs; communicate with 2nd Shift Supervisor on vehicle service needs and take vehicle for service/repairs; Maintain vehicle logs/records
School:
Monitor arrival of buses and cabs in the afternoons and ensure that all residents return home, communicate with Case Coordinator on residents' school needs, assist with homework
Activities:
provide guidance to afternoon homework interns and other volunteers, remind residents of planned activities, conduct independent living skill activities, other activity duties as needed
Counseling:
be aware of residents' emotional needs, talk with residents throughout shift and document needs, communicating with Case Coordinator as needed; utilize the COPING Model to support residents when behavioral issues arise
Communication:
Ensure house policies and procedures are being followed and adhered to by all residents, at shift change sharing updates the next shift will need to know, notifying 2nd Shift Supervisor or Case Coordinator of any needs for the house or residents, and attend staffing meetings with Case Coordinator and Residential Program Leadership to stay up to date on resident progress and information
Reports :
Complete shift summaries, shift task sheets, incident reports, and any other reports as needed/requested. Enter resident information into Apricot database system daily before leaving shift
Training:
Complete a minimum of 16 hours of training annually Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 1+ years of experience, preferred o Associate degree with 2+ years of experience; or High School Diploma with 3+ years of experience in childcare or related experience with at-risk youth Experience working with teens and young adults Experience with facilitating independent living skills Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, bend and stoop to perform essential duties. Ability to stand, bend, twist, lift and stoop in the normal course of care of teens and a home Ability to prepare and cook meals for residents Must be a team player, communicate effectively, and have critical thinking and problem-solving skills Requirements Prior to
Employment:
Clean and valid driver's license and driving report Must be able to pass standard background checks including SLED, Fingerprint, DSS Central Registry, and both SC and National Sex Offender, drug screen, and employment physical If lived outside of South Carolina in the past 5 years, must also pass DSS Central Registry check from the state previously lived CPR and First Aid certification Must be 21 years of age or older
