Rope Mill Supervisor Location:
Pomfret, CT Position Summary Responsible for producing high-quality wire and cable products for internal and external customers. Operates and maintains stranding machinery and related equipment in accordance with company standards, ISO/AS procedures, and continuous improvement practices. Ensures product quality, safety, and production efficiency at all times. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate 1-9 stranding machines under varying levels of supervision. Adjust machinery to maintain proper wire/strand movement, speed, and tension. Interpret work orders, blueprints, diagrams, and part numbering systems to prepare and execute production runs. Verify start-up approvals and ensure all specifications are met prior to and during production. Operate related equipment including standers, welders, preform heads, hoists, cutters, and postformers. Monitor production processes, including spool changes, gauges, die pressures, and footage counters. Perform precise measurements using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure tolerance requirements (± .0005) are met. Make necessary adjustments using basic math and measurement calculations. Prepare products for subsequent production steps. Quality & Documentation Maintain accurate production and traceability records. Record inspection results, SPC data, and part information daily. Input data into SPC systems in a timely and accurate manner. Monitor product quality and report abnormalities or equipment malfunctions. Support continuous improvement efforts and adherence to ISO/AS standards. Maintenance & Safety Perform routine preventative maintenance and lubrication of equipment. Maintain clean and organized work areas and machinery. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA standards. Use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Teamwork & Communication Communicate regularly with supervisors, technicians, and team members regarding production status and issues. Participate in team meetings, SPC initiatives, and continuous improvement projects. Assist in training and onboarding new employees as needed. Contribute ideas to improve processes, safety, quality, and efficiency. Qualifications High school diploma or trade school training in manufacturing or a related field preferred. 1-3 years of manufacturing experience or equivalent. Basic computer and data entry skills (or ability to learn). Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work instructions. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments. Strong mathematical skills, including decimal and fractional calculations. Effective communication skills in English. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Performance Expectations Performance is evaluated based on: Product quality, output, and efficiency Adherence to ISO/AS and SPC standards (including CPK metrics) Accuracy and timeliness of documentation Equipment operation proficiency Attendance, safety compliance, and teamwork Scrap reduction and continuous improvement participation Physical Requirements (With or without reasonable accommodation) Stand for extended periods (60-90%) on concrete surfaces. Perform repetitive tasks involving hand and body movement.Lift and handle materials including:
Spools up to 13 lbs (frequently) Reels up to 50-200 lbs using hoists (occasionally) Apply manual force (5-25 lbs) for cutting and machine operation. Perform frequent bending, lifting, gripping, and reaching. Maintain high levels of hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and concentration. Work Environment Manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures. Potential exposure to minor injuries (cuts, burns, abrasions) and industrial materials/chemicals. PPE required as appropriate. Overtime, weekend, holiday, or shift work may be required. Additional Requirements Must be at least 18 years old.
