Sales Engineer Job Description This position is with a premier manufacturer and supplier of temperature sensors, electrical enclosures, and electro-mechanical assembly services for industrial applications. The Sales Engineer supports the Sales Department in its core activities and plays a key role in planning and implementing sales initiatives. This role focuses on a wide variety of technical sales and support duties for the Sales Manager and for current and prospective customers, translating customer needs and specifications into clear, accurate sales proposals and quotations that maximize sales and margin growth. You will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, reporting directly to the Sales Manager. Responsibilities Develop and maintain successful, long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers. Respond to customer and prospect inquiries with solution-oriented, timely, and accurate proposals. Review customer specifications to determine appropriate equipment specifications, features, and special requirements. Collaborate closely with engineering and technical staff to clarify customer needs and develop detailed specifications. Provide strategic product recommendations, pricing options, and technical solutions that meet customer requirements and support margin growth. Compile, write, and revise customer and prospect proposals and quotations using internal tools and templates. Participate in sales calls, customer meetings, and presentations to support business development and account growth. Use Microsoft Excel to prepare, calculate, and manage quotes for customer jobs, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Interpret and understand customer blueprints and prints, and collaborate with engineers to develop accurate quotes. Manage and expand current accounts while actively identifying and creating new business opportunities in an outside sales capacity. Support account management activities, including follow-up on quotes, tracking opportunities, and maintaining accurate customer records. Essential Skills Proven sales experience, preferably in a technical or industrial environment. Strong ability to develop and maintain customer relationships and manage accounts. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for quoting and data entry, including building and updating quotations from customer information. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and customer prints and use this information to support accurate quoting. Experience with outside sales, including expanding existing accounts and creating new accounts. Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing proposals, quotations, and customer correspondence. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and technical staff to clarify requirements and develop solutions. Demonstrated project management skills, including organizing tasks, managing timelines, and following through to completion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently under pressure and respond quickly to changing priorities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a technical field, or equivalent successful experience in a similar industry. General knowledge of temperature measurement or sensors is a plus. Experience preparing and presenting sales proposals and quotations in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Comfort participating in sales calls, meetings, and presentations with internal teams and customers. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing specifications and preparing quotes. Motivation to grow within a manufacturing organization and take on increasing responsibility over time. Work Environment This role is based in an office environment with standard business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work closely with sales, engineering, and technical staff in a professional manufacturing setting that supports industrial customers. The position offers the opportunity to support a major customer account and to grow within a stable, expanding company, with the potential for early conversion to a permanent role accompanied by increased compensation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northampton, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
