Milmont Greenhouses provides Shenandoah Valley and Central Virginia customers with an extensive array of skillfully nurtured plants and gardening supplies. Most of the plants we sell are grown here on site and sold in our year-round garden center. We are looking for a motivated and skilled individual to join our team as Sales Manager. The successful Sales Manager will be a highly collaborative team member with a passion for horticulture who will put Milmont's mission first and ensure that we deliver remarkable experiences to our customers. To accomplish this, they will exemplify Milmont's core values, inspire the staff, and set the standard for work performance in the garden center. Milmont is a highly seasonal business, and the sales manager will coordinate with the HR Manager to maintain seasonally appropriate staffing and product inventory levels. The Sales Manager will direct the customer facing garden center staff and the Inventory Supervisor. They will coordinate with the Production Manager, the HR Manager, and the Store Manager. The Sales Manager will analyze historical sales records and industry trends and combine the results of this analysis with the identification of new plant varieties and new product forms to forecast product inventory needs. They work closely with the Production Manager to specify the quantity of plant material grown at Milmont. They will also direct the ordering of plant material from outside vendors to maintain optimal inventory levels that satisfy customers' needs and achieve acceptable inventory performance. The Sales Manager will also direct pricing including promotional and contractual prices to achieve Milmont's revenue and gross profit goals. The Sales area at Milmont includes approximately 10,000 sq feet of greenhouse space and nearly 1 acre of outside display areas. Customers Provide and teach excellent customer service Ensure that customer orders are managed appropriately and received by the customer to the customer's satisfaction Coordinate with marketing staff to provide notices of new plant material on display, pictures, promotions, etc. for communication to existing and potential customers. Lead Milmont staff in answering customer questions and delivering gardening solutions to address customer's needs. 2. Staff Work with the HR Manager and the General Manager to hire seasonal and long-term garden center staff Supervise, motivate, encourage, and inspire garden center staff Coordinate with the HR Manager to ensure staff are adequately trained Create staff schedules and plan for staffing needs including adjustments to the schedule due to weather, deliveries/receiving, and customer traffic. 3. Inventory Ensure that all plant display areas are attractive, clean, and orderly Lead and direct staff to maintain plant material on retail display including watering, trimming, spacing, pest management, and disease management. Ensure that appropriate inventory levels of plant material are maintained as appropriate for the season. Ensure that plant display areas are fully stocked and that all items are displayed appropriately with POP signage and pricing. Ensure that item pricing has been managed to achieve both total revenue and gross profit goals. Maintain lists of key inventory items (both seasonal and annual) Develop and monitor plans to ensure correct levels of key inventory items. Oversee plant orders placed by plant material buyers Direct the Inventory Supervisor to ensure accurate and timely inventory records Analyze sales projections and coordinate with the Production Manager to help determine quantities of plant material to grow here at Milmont vs. ordering from outside vendors. 4. Facility Coordinate with the General Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective display fixtures and sales area equipment is in place. Watch for and resolve or report safety issues and advise garden center staff as appropriate. 5. Administration Notify fellow managers and/or the General Manager of any issues that need to be addressed - clearly, directly, and immediately Lead weekly/daily retail staff huddle to set tone and vision for the week / day Attend and contribute to weekly manager's meetings, seasonal staff training meetings. Utilize continuing education, personal research, etc. to advise the General Manager of trending plant material, gardening techniques, tools, display fixtures, business opportunities, etc.
Qualifications:
Speak English (Multilingual preferred) Able to work Saturdays and holidays with additional hours in the spring season. Good computer skills including a high level of proficiency with Microsoft office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) High School diploma or equivalent (Associate/Bachelor degree in horticulture preferred) Proven track record with a minimum of 5 years of garden center experience Previous work experience in management or supervisory roles Clean driving record with the ability to drive vehicles up to but not including CDL limits Benefits Paid Vacation Paid Holidays Paid Sick Leave Simple IRA with Company matching
