We are looking for an experienced Carrier Representative / Account Representative who understands the day-to-day demands of transportation operations and has strong experience working with both carriers and customers . This is an important role within our operations team. The right person will be responsible for helping move freight from beginning to end — finding the right carrier, negotiating the best available rate, managing the shipment, communicating with the customer, resolving problems, and making sure the freight gets delivered as promised. Position Overview This position is primarily focused on transportation operations and carrier relationships , with responsibility for supporting and managing customer accounts. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the trucking and logistics industry and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change throughout the day. You will be expected to know how to find capacity, build carrier relationships, negotiate rates, cover freight, track shipments, communicate with customers, and solve problems. We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running. This is not an entry-level position and is not simply a data-entry or dispatch role. The person in this position should already understand the transportation business and be able to make good decisions when dealing with carriers, customers, and changing market conditions. Key Responsibilities Transportation Operations Manage the day-to-day movement of customer freight from pickup through delivery. Secure qualified carriers and ensure loads are properly covered. Communicate with carriers throughout the shipment to ensure pickups and deliveries happen as scheduled. Track shipments and proactively address delays, service issues, or changes. Maintain accurate shipment, customer, and carrier information in the TMS. Ensure required paperwork, PODs, rate confirmations, and other documentation are completed. Carrier Relations Develop and maintain strong relationships with reliable, qualified carriers. Build a dependable carrier base for specific lanes, customers, equipment, and geographic areas. Negotiate carrier rates while protecting NWIC's margins. Understand current market conditions, capacity, equipment availability, and lane pricing. Know which carriers are the best fit for specific shipments and customers. Prospect for and onboard new qualified carriers when additional capacity is needed. Maintain regular communication with core carrier partners to develop long-term relationships. Work through carrier performance issues, claims, delays, and service problems. Continue developing carrier relationships so NWIC is not dependent solely on load boards or last-minute coverage.
Customer / Account

Pricing & Profitability Quote and negotiate transportation rates with both customers and carriers. Understand the relationship between customer pricing, carrier costs, market conditions, and profitability. Make sound decisions regarding when to cover a load, when to negotiate, and when additional sourcing is required. Help maintain acceptable margins while still providing competitive service to our customers. Understand that the cheapest carrier is not always the best carrier and that service, reliability, and relationships are critical to long-term success. What We Are Looking For 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, forwarding, or a related field preferred. Strong hands-on experience working with carriers and transportation providers. Strong understanding of transportation operations and the process of covering and managing freight.
