Rental Manager / Branch Manager Summary ABC Equipment Rental and Sales is seeking an energetic, mechanically inclined, and customer-focused Equipment Rental Technician to join our team. This dual-role position is critical to the success of our branch, combining technical expertise in maintaining rental equipment with exceptional customer service in the rental yard. The technician will be responsible for ensuring all equipment is clean, in excellent working order, and safely operating before and after rental, while also being the primary technical contact for customers during the check-out and check-in process. Key Responsibilities Technical & Maintenance (70%)
Inspection & Testing:
Conduct thorough pre-rental and post-rental inspections and functional tests on a wide range of rental equipment (e.g., aerial lifts, compact excavators, generators, concrete tools, landscaping equipment, trailers, etc.). Preventative Maintenance (PM): Perform routine maintenance tasks, including fluid checks, oil changes, filter replacements, tire pressure adjustments, and lubrication, following manufacturer schedules.
Basic Repairs:
Diagnose and perform minor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs on equipment, ensuring quick turnaround times to maximize fleet availability.
Cleaning & Detailing:
Responsibly clean, wash, and detail equipment upon return to ensure a professional presentation for the next customer.
Fuel & Safety Checks:
Ensure all equipment is properly fueled and that all safety features, decals, and operational controls are fully functional and compliant.
Yard Management:
Organize and maintain the equipment yard and staging areas, ensuring equipment is easily accessible, inventoried, and stored safely. Client-Facing & Customer Service (30%)
Technical Consultation:
Greet customers and clearly explain the proper and safe operation of rented equipment, answering technical questions and addressing any concerns.
Check-Out/Check-In:
Professionally process equipment rentals and returns, verifying equipment condition with the customer and documenting any damage or issues accurately.
Troubleshooting Support:
Provide basic over-the-phone or in-person troubleshooting assistance to customers experiencing minor operational issues at their job sites.
Damage Assessment:
Accurately assess and document equipment damage upon return, communicating findings to the Rental Manager and customer service team for billing.
Promote Services:
Identify opportunities to inform customers about relevant company services, safety accessories, or consumable products.
Safety Advocacy:
Champion a safety-first culture by emphasizing safe operating procedures to all customers.
Qualifications Required:
Experience:
Minimum of [1-2] years of experience in equipment maintenance, auto mechanics, or a related technical field. Experience in a rental environment is a significant plus Trade School usually a plus
Technical Skills:
Basic mechanical aptitude with knowledge of internal combustion engines (gas/diesel), electrical systems, and/or hydraulics.
Customer Service:
Proven ability to interact positively and professionally with customers, explaining technical concepts clearly to non-technical individuals.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Licenses:
Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record.
Must Pass Background Check Preferred:
Vocational/Technical certification in Heavy Equipment, Diesel Technology, or Automotive Repair. Familiarity with common rental software and basic computer skills. Experience operating various types of construction, industrial, or specialty rental equipment. Benefits & Compensation Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
