Job Description

Company Overview Surgical Associates, SC is a leading independent surgical group serving multiple communities across the region. With a team of highly skilled surgeons specializing in various fields, we are dedicated to providing exceptional surgical care through our clinics and affiliated surgical centers. SUMMARY The Patient Accounts Specialist supports daily patient billing and payment operations by responding to patient inquiries, processing payments and correspondence, reviewing account work queues, releasing statements, and resolving patient account credits. This position works closely with the Revenue Cycle Management team and may provide backup support to other team members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1.
Patient billing calls and issue resolution 2. Credit card payment processing and daily posting 3. Payment-plan establishment and default follow-up 4. Billing mail processing 5. Weekly statement review and release 6. Self-pay follow-up and final notices 7. Collection-review referrals 8. Patient-credit review and refund processing 9. Account documentation and reconciliation 10. Limited insurance-coverage review 11. Perform other projects and duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical degree or completion of post high school courses is preferred.
  • Previous work experience in medical billing or medical administrative support role is required.
  • Previous experience within a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 year prior experience within financial/banking services is required.
  • Experience with Epic software is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - COMPETENCIES
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
  • Possesses knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Adherence to strict confidentiality standards and compliance as to scope of role, record keeping, PHI and HIPPA.
  • Possesses knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of insurance and medical terminology.
  • Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Models a professional disposition and communication style.
  • Possesses the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high level of quality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work under pressure and with constant interruptions.
  • Specific safety certification/recertification may be required per the organization.

The nature of the job requires sitting for extended periods of time. While performing the essential functions of the job one may occasionally stand, walk, bend/stoop, squat, reach above shoulder, crouch, kneel balance, push/pull. Some lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. is required. The use of hands for repetitive simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulating is required. Must utilize hearing for continuous conversations, telephone use, background noise. Frequent stress may occur. The job requires frequent independent decision-making.
