Job Description

Position Overview:
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator supports a broad range of communications, content, and digital marketing functions. The ideal candidate brings strong writing and proofreading skills, experience with digital advertising, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine interest in developing expertise across multiple areas of school marketing and communications. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will shift based on departmental priorities, individual strengths, and growth over time.
Areas of work include:
  • Write, edit, and proofread a range of content including constituent emails, newsletters, alumni stories, admissions pieces, event communications, Annual Report spotlights, and web copy.
  • Plan and execute paid digital advertising campaigns across Google, Meta, and other platforms. Monitor and analyze campaign performance to optimize efforts.
  • Support the coordination and project management of departmental work, including major print pieces and photo and video shoot logistics.
  • Serve as a proofreading resource across the department, helping ensure accuracy and brand consistency in all written materials.
  • Conduct student, faculty, and alumni interviews to gather content for publications.
  • Assist with website content updates and webpage creation.
  • Assist with vendor and freelancer coordination as needed.
Qualifications:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, or a related field
  • 2-5 years working in marketing, advertising, or relevant fields
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
  • A collaborative approach to work
  • Genuine curiosity and willingness to learn new tools and take on new responsibilities
  • Alignment with the mission and values of Dexter Southfield A Plus
  • Experience with paid digital advertising or digital marketing strategy
  • Graphic design experience (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar)
  • Digital photography experience
  • Familiarity with independent schools or nonprofit environments

Requirements:
This job requires one to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds, as well as the ability to stand, sit, walk, and effectively use extremities to reach, hold, touch, push, pull, lift, and carry. Incumbent must also effectively communicate (oral, written, non-verbal) with others. This job typically requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing and is performed under minimal temperature variations in a generally hazard-free environment. Depending on classroom assignment, this role may require one to relocate classrooms throughout the day and require ascending and descending stairs. Incumbents will occasionally be required to work extended hours, including after school, during evenings, and on weekends. Dexter Southfield's 36-acre campus is composed of several buildings, playing fields, and outdoor learning spaces, which are accessible via internal and external walkways, stairs, nature paths, hills, and uneven terrain. This position requires one to transfer between these areas in all weather conditions.
