The Mesabi Symphony Orchestra (www.mesabisymphonyorchestra.org) is looking for a motivated and goal-oriented individual to step into the role of Coordinator of Development & Marketing/Events. By joining the MSO in this leadership role, you will be helping to sustain and grow an important arts & cultural organization and helping to bring orchestral music to the communities in the Arrowhead region of Minnesota. Mesabi Symphony Orchestra:
Founded in 1978, the Mesabi Symphony Orchestra's mission is to keep orchestral music alive and thriving in the Arrowhead of Minnesota. The musicians of the MSO are committed to artistic excellence, community, and lifelong learning. In recent years, the MSO has regularly programmed a four-concert series regular season, with most series having two performances, and a fundraising-focused concert and gala at the end of the season. In addition, other special events and concerts are often scheduled and have included New Year's Eve gala events and other performances in the holiday season.
Major Objective:
As Coordinator of Development & Marketing/Events, you will serve as the lead person that manages fundraising, marketing, and events in support of the Mesabi Symphony Orchestra. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys moving between strategy and execution. Above all, you're someone who is passionate about cultivating financial support for the MSO and finding creative ways for the MSO to impact our communities.
Development Responsibilities:
Build donor, business, and community relationships to increase giving, sponsorships, and public support and to help increase audience attendance Develop a sponsorship program to help secure season and/or concert sponsors Coordinate and execute annual fundraising campaigns including Give to the Max and MSO Year-End Giving Campaigns Coordinate all fundraising concert events in cooperation with the Artistic Director and the MSO Board of Directors.
Examples of fundraising concerts include:
An annual fundraising concert has typically been scheduled in June that features collaborations with vocalists/bands with lighter music and has included Broadway & Music Theater songs and rock/funk/pop music In the past few years, the MSO has periodically programmed special events on New Year's Eve that have collaborated with other organizations and featured vocalists singing jazz, big band, and pop music standards Coordinate additional non-music events, either for fundraising or community engagement
Marketing & Events Responsibilities:
Work with Artistic Director to coordinate regular season concerts Develop strategies for promoting the MSO and placing ads in print & online Newspapers, online event community calendars, radio ads (MPR), social media ads & ad campaigns, etc. Oversee dissemination of printed ad/PR materials including posters for each concert series Create and send email newsletters/announcements using the MSO's established MailChimp account Attend all concerts as a leader of the MSO to engage with patrons and coordinate front-of-house activities Oversee ticketing responsibilities and coordinate/assist with refreshments & receptions after concerts Ensure concert programs are available to hand out at each concert Develop volunteer roster and schedule volunteers for concerts and events to assist with front-of-house activities Reconcile on-site ticket sales with
Treasurer or Accountant General Responsibilities:
Work with Artistic Director, Administrative Assistant, and the MSO Board of Directors to help facilitate strategies and implement action plans Prepare a monthly progress report for submission to the MSO Board of Directors' monthly meeting Serve as guest of the Board of Directors and attend most monthly meetings, which are held virtually
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in business development, nonprofit development/fundraising, philanthropy, or a combination of development and marketing/communications roles Strong interpersonal and written & verbal communication skills Multitasking, organizational, and time management skills Bookkeeping skills to maintain records of invoices & expenses Ability to work autonomously but also work with an artistic team Comfortable working with email and basic office software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
