Full Job Description Director of Business Systems & AI Eclipse Lighting & ElectricalLocation:
Southern CaliforniaJob Type:
Full-TimeCompensation:
$150,000-$190,000 per year + performance bonus About Eclipse Lighting & Electrical Eclipse Lighting & Electrical is an established commercial lighting and electrical contractor with approximately 100 employees. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a highly capable Director of Business Systems & AI to lead a company-wide transformation of our processes, technology, automation, data, and use of artificial intelligence. This is not a traditional IT support position, and we are not looking for someone simply to introduce employees to AI tools. We are looking for someone who can learn how our business operates from the ground up, identify inefficient or outdated processes, and then design and implement better systems. The Opportunity Our company has grown significantly over the years, and some of our processes and systems have not evolved as quickly as the business. Many workflows currently involve combinations of paper, manual approvals, multiple software systems, databases, spreadsheets, and repeated data entry. We believe there is a significant opportunity to use modern software, automation, integrations, data analytics, and AI to fundamentally improve how the company operates. You will be responsible for leading that transformation. You will work directly with company ownership and department leaders across: Operations Dispatch Field Operations Estimating Engineering Sales Accounting Accounts Receivable Accounts Payable Payroll Purchasing Billing Human Resources IT Your job will be to understand how work actually moves through Eclipse and determine how we can do it better. What You'll Do Understand and Redesign Our Processes Spend time inside each department observing how employees actually work. Map workflows from initial customer request through estimating, scheduling, field execution, documentation, billing, collection, and financial reporting.
Identify:
Duplicate data entry Unnecessary approvals Paper-based processes Manual reporting Bottlenecks Disconnected systems Repetitive administrative work Opportunities for automation Opportunities for AI Processes that should be redesigned before they are automated We don't want to automate bad processes. We want to fix them first. Own Our Business Systems Strategy Evaluate our existing technology stack and determine what should be kept, improved, integrated, replaced, or eliminated. Current systems include QuickBooks Enterprise, Microsoft Access-based operational systems, custom-developed applications, and various department-specific tools and processes. You will help determine the appropriate long-term technology architecture for the company. Implement Automation and AI Identify practical applications of AI and automation that produce measurable business results.
Potential applications include:
Automated document processing Work-order processing Dispatch and scheduling assistance Estimating and takeoff automation Field documentation Purchasing and material workflows Invoice preparation and validation Accounts receivable workflows Job-cost analysis Financial reporting Management dashboards Customer communication Internal knowledge systems Contract and document review Exception detection Operational analytics AI should solve business problems—not be implemented simply because it is new technology. Connect Our Systems Reduce information silos and unnecessary manual entry. Develop or oversee integrations between accounting, operations, estimating, field systems, reporting tools, and other company platforms. Experience with APIs, databases, workflow automation, and systems integration is highly valuable. Build Management Visibility Create systems and dashboards that allow leadership to quickly understand: Job profitability Labor performance Billing status Accounts receivable Operational bottlenecks Estimating performance Field productivity Purchasing/material issues Financial performance Exceptions requiring management attention Our goal is to move from searching for information to having important information automatically surfaced to management. Lead Implementation You will not necessarily be expected to personally write every piece of software. You will be expected to understand technology well enough to determine what should be built, purchased, or integrated and to manage internal resources, developers, consultants, vendors, and AI platforms required to accomplish it. Most importantly, you will be accountable for getting projects implemented—not simply making recommendations. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate has experience in some combination of: Construction technology Electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or specialty contracting Business systems ERP implementation Digital transformation Operations/process improvement Systems integration Workflow automation AI implementation Data analytics Experience inside a commercial contractor or construction company is strongly preferred. You should understand—or be capable of quickly understanding—business processes involving: Estimating Project/service operations Dispatch Purchasing Field labor Payroll Job costing Billing Accounts receivable Accounting Technical Experience Experience with some combination of the following is preferred: Construction ERP systems QuickBooks Enterprise or similar accounting/ERP platforms Microsoft SQL Server / SQL Microsoft Access Power BI Microsoft Power Platform APIs and system integrations Workflow automation platforms Cloud applications AI/LLM platforms AI agents and workflow automation Data architecture and reporting Construction management software You do not need experience with every technology listed above. We care more about your ability to understand business problems, design solutions, and successfully implement them. Who Will Succeed in This Position You may be a strong fit if you are the type of person who walks into a department, watches a process involving 15 steps and immediately starts asking: Why are we doing it this way? You enjoy understanding how businesses actually operate. You are comfortable talking with everyone from electricians and dispatchers to accountants, engineers, managers, software developers, and company ownership. You can translate operational problems into technology solutions. You aren't afraid to challenge existing processes. And you finish what you start. What This Position Is NOT This is not primarily: Help desk/desktop support Network administration Cybersecurity Software development An AI research position A consulting position that produces reports without implementation This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for making Eclipse a more efficient, scalable, data-driven company. How Success Will Be Measured Success will be measured by tangible improvements such as: Reduction in manual administrative work Faster work-order-to-invoice cycle Reduced duplicate data entry Improved billing accuracy Better job-cost visibility Improved estimating throughput Faster management reporting Improved accounts receivable processes Reduced dependence on paper Successful adoption of new systems across the organization Why Join Eclipse? This is a rare opportunity to have significant influence over the future of an established company. You will not be joining a massive corporate IT department where you own one small piece of a system. You will have direct access to company ownership and the ability to rethink how an entire organization operates. For the right person, this is an opportunity to build the technology and operational infrastructure that will support Eclipse's next stage of growth.
