A Director of Business Development is a highly specialized Business Development Manager. Plans and directs sale of products or services to customers. Coordinates sales distribution. Establishes sales territories, quotas and/or goals for staff, and provides training for sales representatives. Analyzes sales data to monitor customer preferences and develops strategies for increasing sales.
Reporting to the CEO, the Executive Director of Business Development leads all business development initiatives and is accountable for census growth, referral development, and strategic partnerships across the organization. The role partners closely with Admissions to develop, monitor, and streamline admissions and marketing processes. The role directly manages the Admissions department and works closely with Marketing and Patient Access to ensure alignment across outreach, admissions, and branding efforts. This position is responsible for driving census growth through outreach, developing new business sectors, maintaining key referral relationships, and supporting both marketing and clinical/admissions operations while ensuring performance metrics are met. This role will oversee two locations; Lombard, IL and Merrillville, IN.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PROGRAM
Prepare and execute short- and long-term strategic goals of the program in collaboration with the Clinical Director and CEO Foster effective teamwork between clinical, admissions, administrative, and marketing staff Develop and implement actionable plans to execute organizational goals Maintain consistent, proactive communication with the clinical team regarding census, referral trends, and capacity
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, direct, and monitor all marketing and brand development initiatives Promote the organization's mission, vision, and values internally and externally Ensure consistent and sustainable admissions volume to meet financial and census goals Build, manage, and retain key referral accounts and strategic partnerships Ensure financial responsibility and accountability of the department Hire, train, and manage Admissions and/or marketing staff, as applicable Develop and execute a comprehensive business development and marketing strategy Attend conferences and represent the organization professionally in the community Coordinate professional, referral, and community engagement events Lead and manage weekly Admissions stand-up meetings Collaborate with Admissions and Case Management to optimize referral conversion and throughput Implement, monitor, and utilize metrics, dashboards, and CRM systems Participate as an active member of the organizational leadership team Address and resolve complaints related to admissions, referral relationships, or outreach Oversee community engagement, outreach, and networking events Build and maintain strong customer and referral relationships Host and coordinate site visits for referral partners and stakeholders FINANCE Establish and maintain sound financial practices in collaboration with the CEO Maintain and oversee the operating budget for Admissions and Business Development Ensure departments operate within approved budgets Recommend and implement performance improvement and revenue optimization systems MISC Assist with interviews, give input, be involved in hiring process. Personally admit patients when necessary, especially during year 1. Be available periodically after hours, able to answer the phone. Willing to work weekends. Assist with office setup, furnishing, vendor coordination, and operational readiness. Assist in developing and implementing early admissions workflows, scripts, and SOP's. Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the needs of the organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of five (5) years experience in outreach, business development, or sales Outpatient SUD Behavioral health experience required Demonstrated success with referral metrics, conversion rates, and census growth CRM experience required Strong collaboration, leadership, and team management skills Excellent professional, written, and verbal communication skills Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally Successful completion of background check and UA screening
