Job Description

Featured Sustainable Economic Development Manager Town of Bar Harbor, ME The Town of Bar Harbor is seeking a Sustainable Economic Development Manager to serve as a strategic and analytical resource within the Planning Department, focused on a central challenge, how a small community with a limited year-round population plans for and manages significant seasonal economic activity, infrastructure demand, and service delivery. This role is designed to strengthen the Town's ability to make informed decisions by connecting economic activity, infrastructure capacity, and municipal finance, supporting policy development, long-term planning, and capital investment decisions across multiple departments. This is not a traditional economic development role focused solely on growth, but rather an analytical and planning position intended to help the Town understand tradeoffs, evaluate impacts, and support decision-making in a complex and dynamic environment. The position works closely with Planning and Code Enforcement, Public Works, and Finance, and regularly engages with boards, committees, regional partners, and external agencies. As the gateway community to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor experiences significant seasonal variation in population, service demand, and economic activity, requiring the Town to deliver municipal services to a small year round population while supporting a much larger seasonal presence. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, real world problems at the intersection of economics, infrastructure, and public policy. A full job description with detailed duties and qualifications is available here.

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, Master's preferred 5-years professional experience in planning, economic development, or related analytical work, 10 years' experience preferred.
