Job Description The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.
Position Summary:
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director leads the local SBDC office, providing guidance and support to small business owners while fostering economic development in the region. The Director manages all aspects of center operations, including training, counseling prospective and existing small business owners, client services, program development, community outreach, and budget oversight. This role serves as the primary liaison between the New Mexico SBDC, local businesses, community partners, and clients. The position reports to the ENMU-Roswell campus President, with a dual reporting line to the New Mexico SBDC. The ENMU-Roswell SBDC is currently a one-person office and requires on-site work; this is not a remote position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Leadership:
Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of small business development programs.
Client Services:
Provide consulting, training, and technical assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners in areas such as business planning, marketing, financing, and management.
Community Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with local government, business organizations, chambers of commerce, and other economic development partners.
Funding and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with Small Business Administration (SBA) and state SBDC requirements; manage center budgets, grants, and reporting obligations.
Outreach and Marketing:
Promote SBDC services to increase awareness and participation in the region.
Performance Metrics:
Track and report center performance, including client outcomes, job creation, capital formation, and other key metrics.
Preferred and Required Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Significant experience in small business management, consulting, or economic development. Experience in financial planning and business plan development. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Familiarity with Small Business Administration (SBA) programs and business development practices. Proven ability to secure funding, manage budgets, and achieve performance goals. Experience in community outreach, partnerships, and public relations.
Preferred:
Master's degree in business, economics, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Expertise in business planning and financial analysis. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to mentor, motivate, and develop staff. Proficiency with office software and data tracking systems.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
