Job Description:

Marietta College invites applications for a tenure-track Director of Entrepreneurship and Assistant Professor of Business beginning August 2027. The successful candidate will join the Department of Business & Economics, one of the College's largest academic units, which offers eight majors: Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Land & Energy Management, Management, Marketing, and Sport Management. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the Entrepreneurship program while teaching courses that support the department's core curriculum. The position also offers the opportunity to teach in Marietta College's new MBA program. We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar with expertise in management, business ethics, human resource management, or related business fields. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach core business courses, contribute to student career development, engage with the regional business community, and support entrepreneurship programming across campus. In addition to teaching and scholarship, the candidate will provide leadership for key co-curricular entrepreneurship initiatives, including the PioBiz competition, the Big Blue thrift store, and the entrepreneurship mentor network. Because of these administrative and programmatic responsibilities, the position may include a reduced teaching load. Essential Functions Teach a load determined in consultation with Academic Affairs and the department chair, with consideration given to the administrative and programmatic responsibilities of the Director of Entrepreneurship role. Teach courses in entrepreneurship and core business areas such as management, business ethics, human resource management, global business, introductory management, and other courses aligned with departmental needs and candidate expertise. Serve as Director of the Entrepreneurship Program, providing leadership for entrepreneurship curriculum, student engagement, program development, and cross-campus collaboration. Coordinate and oversee major entrepreneurship co-curricular initiatives, including the PioBiz competition and the Big Blue thrift store. Recruit, develop, and coordinate community mentors and entrepreneurship partners to support student learning, venture development, and professional growth. Build relationships with regional entrepreneurs, business leaders, alumni, and organizations to expand experiential learning, internship, mentoring, and community-partnership opportunities. Support the continued growth, visibility, assessment, and recruitment of entrepreneurship programming across the College. Serve as an academic advisor, maintaining an active portfolio of advisees and meeting with students regularly for course registration and academic planning. Act as a positive mentor for Marietta College students, fostering intellectual growth, career readiness, entrepreneurial thinking, and professional development. Engage in scholarship and research, broadly defined to include applied, pedagogical, and disciplinary work. Participate in service to the College and department, including committee work, student recruitment, departmental meetings, and other duties appropriate to a tenure-track faculty appointment.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications An earned MBA or another relevant master's degree with substantial entrepreneurial, business leadership, professional, and/or college-level teaching experience. Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, student mentoring, and experiential learning in a contemporary liberal arts environment. Ability to teach one or more core business areas consistent with departmental needs.

Additional Information:

Preferred Qualifications An earned doctorate (PhD, DBA, or equivalent) in entrepreneurship, management, business administration, or a closely related field is preferred. Demonstrated experience in entrepreneurship education, venture development, innovation, startup activity, or small business leadership. Eperience coordinating programs, competitions, mentoring networks, incubators, accelerators, advisory groups, or related entrepreneurship initiatives. Experience building partnerships with entrepreneurs, employers, alumni, community organizations, and other external stakeholders. Previous college-level teaching experience. Experience with program assessment, curriculum development, student recruitment, or co-curricular program management.
