Success in this position will be measured by more than activity. The Director of Sales will be expected to produce measurable growth in qualified opportunities, sales revenue, customer relationships, market presence, and profitability. Key ResponsibilitiesSales Leadership & Accountability Lead, manage, coach, and develop MRC's sales and business development team. Establish clear individual and department sales goals, expectations, and performance standards. Create accountability for prospecting, customer contact, follow-up, proposals, pipeline development, and closed sales. Develop a strong sales culture centered on urgency, consistency, professionalism, relationships, and results. Assist leadership with recruiting, onboarding, training, and evaluating sales personnel. Recommend improvements to sales roles, territories, responsibilities, compensation plans, and department structure as MRC grows. Sales Strategy & Growth Develop and execute MRC's overall sales and business development strategy. Establish annual, quarterly, and monthly sales goals and develop actionable plans to achieve them. Identify target markets, customer types, geographic areas, and service lines with the greatest opportunities for profitable growth. Develop strategies to increase MRC's presence with commercial property owners, facility managers, general contractors, developers, architects, school districts, municipalities, tribal entities, and other target customers. Expand sales opportunities across MRC's services, including commercial metal roofing, retrofit systems, architectural wall panels, repairs, maintenance, fabrication, and related services. Identify new markets and revenue opportunities that align with MRC's capabilities and growth objectives. Build strategies for both new customer acquisition and increased business from existing customers. Monitor competitors, market conditions, customer needs, and industry trends that could impact MRC's sales strategy. Business Development & Key Accounts Personally develop and maintain relationships with key customers, strategic accounts, industry partners, and major prospects. Actively prospect for new business through calls, meetings, referrals, networking, industry events, and relationship development. Pursue larger and more strategic opportunities alongside members of the sales team. Participate in important customer meetings, presentations, negotiations, and closing conversations. Develop relationships with decision-makers rather than relying solely on bid invitations and incoming opportunities. Create strategies to stay in front of existing customers and generate repeat business. Represent MRC professionally at networking events, industry events, customer meetings, and community functions. Sales Pipeline & Performance Management Maintain visibility into the entire MRC sales pipeline and ensure opportunities are being actively managed. Ensure sales activity and opportunity information is accurate, organized, and current. Monitor key sales metrics, including prospecting activity, qualified opportunities, proposals, close rates, sales volume, gross profit, pipeline value, and customer retention. Develop sales forecasts and regularly communicate pipeline health, opportunities, risks, and results to company leadership. Identify stalled opportunities and develop strategies to move them forward or remove them from the active pipeline. Use sales data to determine what is working, where opportunities are being lost, and where the department needs to improve. Estimating & Operations Coordination Work closely with MRC's estimating team to ensure opportunities are properly qualified before significant estimating resources are committed. Ensure sales representatives provide estimating with complete project information, customer expectations, scope details, photos, measurements, field information, and deadlines. Help prioritize estimating opportunities based on customer relationship, project fit, probability of award, schedule, profitability, and strategic value. Review significant proposals and opportunities before submission when appropriate. Coordinate with project management and operations to ensure commitments made during the sales process can be successfully delivered. Maintain communication between sales, estimating, and operations so projects transition smoothly after award. Gather customer and project feedback to continuously improve MRC's sales and customer experience. Pricing, Negotiation & Closing Develop a strong understanding of MRC's estimating, pricing, margins, capabilities, and project risk. Help sales representatives communicate MRC's value instead of competing solely on price. Lead or assist with negotiations on major or strategic opportunities. Protect company margins while working to create solutions that meet customer needs. Develop consistent proposal follow-up and closing strategies. Work with leadership and estimating to identify why MRC wins or loses projects and use that information to improve future sales efforts.
