The Business Development Manager is responsible for expanding market share and developing new business opportunities through the growth of distribution channels, retail partnerships, and strategic business relationships. This position is responsible for identifying and developing new opportunities, building and maintaining business relationships, expanding the company's presence across targeted markets and channels, and supporting the successful onboarding and development of new accounts. The Business Development Manager will also own the company's Product Information Management (PIM) activities and provide weekly sales and business-development reporting to management and shareholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development & Market Expansion Identify and develop new business opportunities and revenue channels. Expand distribution through new distributors, dealers, commercial customers, and strategic partners. Develop and maintain retail partnerships and opportunities. Research markets, customers, competitors, and channels to identify potential opportunities. Establish and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing business partners. Manage business-development opportunities from initial identification through development and onboarding. Identify opportunities to expand product assortment and business with existing accounts. Monitor market and customer activity and communicate relevant opportunities to management. Retail & Distribution Identify qualified retail and distribution partners aligned with company objectives. Develop relationships with prospective partners and manage appropriate follow-up. Support account presentations, product assortment discussions, pricing discussions, onboarding requirements, and related business-development activities. Coordinate with internal departments to support the successful launch of new accounts and opportunities. Maintain accurate records of active and prospective business opportunities. Product Information Management (PIM) Own and manage the company's Product Information Management (PIM) activities. Maintain accurate, complete, and current product information. Manage product specifications, descriptions, attributes, certifications, imagery, packaging information, and other required product data. Ensure product information is properly maintained across applicable retail, distribution, marketplace, and sales channels. Coordinate with internal teams to obtain, verify, and update product information. Support product setup, new-product launches, assortment changes, and product-data updates. Maintain current product catalog at all times. Sales & Business Reporting Prepare and distribute a weekly sales snapshot to management and shareholders. Provide visibility into sales performance, account activity, business-development opportunities, and key developments. Monitor sales activity and identify areas requiring follow-up. Maintain visibility into the business-development pipeline and account progress. Communicate relevant market and customer information to management. Cross-Functional Coordination Work closely with the VP of Operations and other internal departments to develop and support new business opportunities. Coordinate with Operations regarding inventory, fulfillment, lead times, and account requirements. Coordinate with Product and Marketing regarding product assortment, product information, and customer requirements. Communicate customer and market requirements internally. Support a smooth transition of new opportunities from development through onboarding and launch.
OWNERSHIP & JUDGMENT
Independently manage responsibilities within the scope of the position. Exercise sound business judgment in evaluating opportunities, priorities, and business relationships. Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and initiatives through completion. Maintain organized records and timely communication. Escalate significant issues, risks, and decisions to the VP of Operations when appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in business development, sales, account management, channel development, or a related field. Experience in the lighting, electrical, distribution, retail, commercial, or related industries preferred. Understanding of retail and distribution channels. Experience working with business customers, distributors, retailers, or strategic partners. Experience with PIM systems, product-data platforms, retail portals, or distributor systems preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business reporting tools. SKILLS Strong business development and relationship-building skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ROLE SUMMARY
The Business Development Manager is an individual-contributor role with significant responsibility for developing new business, expanding distribution and retail relationships, managing product information, and providing clear visibility into sales and business-development activity. The position requires an individual who can work independently, exercise sound judgment, build strong business relationships, and effectively manage responsibilities within their scope while reporting directly to the VP of Operations. This role supports the company's continued growth by identifying new opportunities, developing strategic relationships, expanding market presence, and supporting the successful development of new and existing business channels.
