Tax Director Distinct Recruitment - 4.5 Greenwood Village, CO Job Details Full-time $190,000 - $210,000 a year 17 hours ago Benefits Profit sharing Health insurance Unlimited paid time off Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Flexible schedule Qualifications Business development Managing clients in a finance role Mentoring Relationship building in financial sales Senior leadership Full Job Description Tax Director Greenwood, CO $190,000 - $210,000 + profit sharing Most Tax Directors don't need another title. They need a reason to care again. By this stage of your career, you've probably already built the technical expertise. You've managed clients, developed people, and survived enough busy seasons to know what really matters. The question becomes whether you're building something meaningful or simply maintaining somebody else's book. That's what makes this opportunity interesting. Because this isn't a replacement for someone leaving unexpectedly. It's succession. And there's a huge difference between the two. Why they're hiring A senior member of the team is approaching retirement, creating an opportunity for someone who still has plenty left in the tank and wants to help shape the future of the practice. Leadership isn't looking for somebody to simply inherit work. They want somebody who enjoys relationships, enjoys business development, and wants to continue building something. Someone who is equally comfortable sitting down with a successful family office client as they are mentoring younger members of the team. The technical side matters. But presence matters too. Clients trust people. And that's exactly what they're looking for. What the role actually looks like The client base centres around: High net worth individuals Family offices Entrepreneurs Partnerships S Corporations Closely held businesses This isn't a volume driven practice. The relationships are deep, long standing, and advisory focused. Clients expect more than compliance. They expect guidance. Strategy. Perspective. Which means your role naturally becomes far more interesting than simply reviewing returns. You'll help develop the next generation of talent, strengthen existing relationships, and continue expanding the book over time. Why people tend to join Not everybody wants to work in a thousand person firm. Some people enjoy having influence. Here, you're sitting close to decisions. Close to leadership. Close to clients. Good ideas don't disappear into committees. And because the team is intentionally boutique, the impact of one person is much greater. Unlimited PTO exists because leadership believes senior people know how to manage their time. Profit sharing exists because they believe people should benefit from helping the firm succeed. And the flexibility throughout the year reflects a simple philosophy. Life and work should fit together. Not compete. What progression actually looks like The future here is unusually open. The structure isn't rigid. There isn't a ten year queue to wait through. As the practice grows, opportunities evolve naturally. Influence grows. Relationships deepen. And leadership becomes increasingly shared. For the right person, this is less about finding another Tax Director role. And more about finding a place where the next decade of your career could genuinely become your best. The culture in practice Most of the leadership team came from much larger firms. They know what good looks like. And they know what burnout looks like too. So they've built something different. The atmosphere is relaxed. People are trusted. Curiosity is encouraged. And whilst everybody works hard, there's very little politics and even less ego. It's a group of smart people who genuinely enjoy helping clients and each other succeed. Simple. But increasingly rare. Who tends to thrive here? Someone entrepreneurial. Someone presentable and commercially minded. Someone who enjoys business development but doesn't need to become a salesperson. Most importantly, someone who still wants to build something. Because whilst they're hiring a Tax Director today, they're really looking for someone who wants to help shape the future of the firm itself. Not ready with a resume? Or want a bit more information before applying? That's fine. Apply the old-fashioned way, or simply reach out to me on LinkedIn or through the Distinct Recruitment website. I'll happily talk you through the role, the firm, and where it could take you before you make any commitments. I'm Abigail Stephen, Recruiter at Distinct. I don't just look at job specs; I look at people, and where they'll thrive. It's not about filling gaps. It's about finding a fit that lasts. Outside of work, balance for me is Pilates to reset, travel to explore, and skiing to recharge. Because the truth is, you don't slog through hours for the love of a spreadsheet. You do it for the freedom it buys you. Same principle here.
