A Business Development Manager identifies new business opportunities and clients for a company, and develops marketing and sales strategies to help grow a company's business. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Senior Business Development & Project Manager to oversee high-value commercial accounts, manage complex material handling installations, and drive sales pipelines. This role involves managing the full project lifecycle—from initial marketing leads and engineering drawings to site inspections and final field installations. The ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge of storage systems (pallet racks, cantilever systems, pick modules, and supported T-sheds) and possesses the relationship-management skills necessary to navigate complex accounts within the lumber and building materials industry. Core Responsibilities 1.
Sales & Lead Management Pipeline Cultivation:
Drive revenue by following up on targeted marketing campaigns, industry association email blasts (e.g., BMSA), and corporate milestone recognitions.
Account Retention & Recovery:
Re-engage dormant or previously lost accounts through targeted requoting and consultative relationship management.
Strategic Networking:
Build and maintain relationships with C-suite executives, branch managers, and operational leaders across regional and national building material suppliers. 2.
Project Engineering & Design Collaboration Site Inspections:
Conduct comprehensive site visits with internal operations and branch managers to assess spatial needs and plan structural merchandising layouts.
Technical Design:
Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to finalize blueprint drawings, spatial layouts, and structural configurations.
Custom Storage Solutions:
Design and spec specialized infrastructure, including Cantilever Storage Systems (CSS), pick modules, single/double-sided T-sheds, and mezzanines. 3.
Formulate and revise high-value quotes and commercial proposals ranging up to $1 million plus.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
Serve as the primary liaison between operations managers, branch management, client engineering teams, and third-party contractors.
Regulatory Compliance:
Navigate local government bureaucracies to track, manage, and expedite building and operational permits.
On-Site Commissioning:
Oversee critical field startups, product testing, and electrical integration, occasionally coordinating international site visits and complex engineering logistics (e.g., power grid and generator issues).
Required Qualifications & Skills Industry Experience:
Minimum 7-10 years of project management or business development experience specifically within the lumber, building materials, rack supported buildings or industrial storage supply chain sectors.
Technical Proficiency:
Proven familiarity with commercial storage infrastructure (Pallet Racking, Rack Supported Buildings, Cantilever Systems, CSS Supported Sheds, Mezzanines, and Pick Modules).
Blueprints & Engineering:
Ability to read, interpret, and finalize structural engineering drawings and mechanical layouts.
CRM & Tools:
Experience managing a complex pipeline using modern CRM tools, email marketing data, and project tracking systems.
Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for managing corporate relationships, technical engineers, and municipal permit offices.
