Job Description

Overview The Director of Sales & Marketing will ensure the sales team meets departmental sales goals. This position is responsible for the overall sales strategy and execution for the facility and will lead all sales personnel in establishing goals, procedures, and responsibilities. The Director will provide leadership for market development initiatives, lead generation, and business development efforts to attract and secure the highest-value convention, meeting, trade show, and event business for the convention center and community. This role must be prepared to effectively align and collaborate with a destination marketing organization (DMO) and other community stakeholders to support destination development and maximize market opportunities. The Director will foster strong collaboration among internal and external stakeholders; ensure adherence to established sales processes and best practices; and drive performance through key sales and marketing KPIs, including lead generation, booking conversion, room night production, client retention, and revenue generation. This role pays an annual salary of $85,000 - $90,000 and is bonus eligible.

Responsibilities Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of all sales programs and activities. Assume director responsibility for all services and activities of the Sales Department within the facility, including sales tools and materials, proposals, sales calls, and contracts. Select, train, motivate, and evaluate all sales personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures. Plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the facility's marketing, sales, and booking strategies to maximize event revenue, increase market share, generate qualified leads, and drive convention, meeting, and event bookings. Participate in the development and administration of the annual budget and forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approve expenditures; and direct and implement adjustments as necessary. Prepare written proposals; reevaluate potential business value of various events and clients; initiate contractual arrangements. Conduct tours of the facility for potential licensees; answer questions and provide information regarding facility capabilities. Meets with General Manager and SVP of Convention Centers on a regular basis to discuss all matters pertaining to sales operations. Travel to regional areas throughout the year in search of new business. Budget and work within the operating budget. Responsible for all event-related business revenue generation for the facility, including the solicitation, development, and booking of conventions, meetings, trade shows, consumer shows, and other events. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications 5-7 years of increasingly responsible sales experience for a convention center, sports venue, hotel, or other similar public assembly or hospitality facility. Minimum of 3 years in a director or senior manager-level role. Bachelor's degree or better from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Sales, Business Administration, or a related field. Ability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Has a strong track record of building relationships and generating new business. Excellent organizational skills, leadership skills, and customer service skills. Enthusiastic and positive thinker. Strong PC and data processing skills; working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, as well as database management software.
