A Head Cashier manages all checkout functions including ensuring adequate staffing levels on checkouts, the processing of sales transactions and refunds, monitoring cash drawer amounts and maintaining the checkout area. Head cashier provides first level escalation for customer issues and assists in the supervision and training of cashiers. Head cashier may also be responsible for opening or closing procedures of a store, including alarm operation, unlocking store and setting up of checkout area.

Join our Front End team and support both customers and cashiers by ensuring accurate transactions, strong communication, and a consistent commitment to the Co-op's values. Responsibilities and Duties Provide accurate and efficient checkout by entering correct SKU, quantity, and weight information into the POS system. Engage customers warmly and offer membership information during transactions. Ask customers to Round Up for the monthly sponsored non-profit, reflecting our core values. Follow all cash handling and check receiving procedures to maintain till and safe accuracy. Uphold state regulations concerning the sale of alcoholic beverages. Monitor self-checkout stations, assist customers, and resolve concerns with calm professionalism. Assign registers, tasks, and job functions to cashiers for smooth Front End operations. Prepare and communicate daily huddle information to ensure cashiers have the tools and updates they need. Oversee cleanliness and organization of the Front End, foyer, and store entrance to maintain a safe, welcoming environment. Perform register drops and loans and prepare deposits according to established procedures. Qualifications and Skills Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Excellent communication abilities that create a welcoming customer experience. Ability to quickly learn and retain information, including common PLU codes. Calm, objective approach to resolving issues and supporting staff under pressure. Efficient work habits suited to a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. 1-3 years of retail cashier or customer service experience preferred, especially in a grocery environment. Must successfully complete a criminal background check. Physical Demands This position requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery store setting, including standing or sitting for prolonged periods, occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Repetitive hand and arm movements, use of step stools or ladders, and proper PPE when using appliances and equipment are required. Working Environment Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
