This role prepares assigned checkout and customer areas, completes opening checks, operates checkout accurately, stocks and faces priority zones, and helps the team enter lunch service ready. What This Job Is Really Like Opening shifts begin early enough to prepare the Market for service and carry through the morning or lunch peak. Part-time schedules are typically 4-6 hours per day, 3-5 days per week. Full-time schedules are typically 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, up to 40 hours per week. Reliable early-day availability is required; exact start times follow the posted schedule. Lunch is one of our highest-demand times. Grocery checkout lines and Grill orders can rise together. You will accurately ring up student meal plans and other tenders, stay professional during long lines, and move with urgency without sacrificing cash control or service. Scotty's is improving POS, inventory, pricing, availability, ordering, and core operating processes while serving customers every day. This can be frustrating. The right person learns patiently, offers constructive suggestions, adapts to changes, and remains engaged even when a suggestion is not adopted. This role includes more than checkout.
We use a high-productivity standard:
if you have time to lean, you have time to clean. You will prepare and maintain seating areas, restock, face merchandise, complete go-backs and floor recovery, clean assigned areas, complete opening records, and help cross-trained positions when the team gets busy. You will join a diverse, multilingual, long-tenured team at a time when we are investing in better systems, support, resources, work conditions, accountability, and customer service. Responsibilities Prepare assigned register, supplies, checkout area, seating area, and Market zones for service. Complete assigned opening safety, temperature, sanitation, stock, price, and equipment checks. Operate checkout accurately; verify tender, issue receipts, protect assigned cash, and follow approved restricted-sale rules. Serve customers professionally and escalate price, tender, refund, safety, product-condition, and policy exceptions.
Complete assigned recovery:
facing, go-backs, stocking, rotation, product holds, checkout cleaning/restocking, floor recovery, and return of issued equipment/documents. Maintain seating areas and assigned zones so they are clean, safe, stocked, faced, and ready for service. Complete required food-safety, temperature, sanitation, price, stockout, damage, shrink, and exception records. Help other positions within your cross-training when team demand requires it. Perform all assigned duties and other job-related tasks as requested. Pay, Benefits, and Growth $14-$20 per hour. Employee discount. One provided meal during an eligible shift. Paid professional-development certifications. Department-ownership incentives. Cross-training and a documented progression toward separately authorized Opening / Closing Keyholder responsibilities for team members who demonstrate readiness. Qualifications Accurate with cash, receipts, simple records, checklists, and POS systems. Strong customer-service judgment and willingness to escalate exceptions rather than improvise unapproved fixes. Reliable early-day availability for scheduled opening shifts. Flexible and patient during operational change; comfortable offering constructive suggestions. Willing to clean, stock, face, recover, and assist other positions within cross-training. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift and move up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform essential duties and other job-related tasks as requested, with or without reasonable accommodation. Authorization Boundaries At entry, this role handles only assigned opening and cashier responsibilities. Refunds, discounts, price overrides, write-offs, cash loans, safe access, keys, alarms, and independent store opening or close require separate written authorization. Apply through Indeed and include your early-day availability.
