For calculation of experience, one year of experience equals 12 months with a minimum of 173.33 hours per month. Additional required documents must be attached. Overview and Minimum Class Requirements Yakima Parks & Recreation is hiring •temporary cashier positions to work at Lion's Pool and/or MLK Aquatic Center. •Temporary positions are non-civil service, non-union, not eligible for benefits and are not to exceed working 866 hours in the year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 15 1/2 years old and have reliable transportation. Previous experience in retail or food service is preferred. Must pass background investigation regarding applicant's aptitude, character, judgement, and criminal history.
LICENSES, REGISTRATION AND CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid WA Food Handler's Card is preferred. Job Summary Under the general supervision and direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing cashiering and concessions services to the general public at City of Yakima pool facilities. Essential Functions Serves the general public by providing retail sales of food, beverages, rentals, swim lessons, general admissions, passes, punch cards, etc. Performs cleaning and maintenance duties of the concessions and front desk areas including snack shack, food service area, food storage area, restrooms, and pool deck area. Performs food service operations such as food preparation, beverages, and serving the general public. Adheres to the WA Health Department food service standards and wear necessary health and safety equipment and assigned pool uniform. Completes reports and forms such as daily closing reports which includes reconciliation of sales and account for funds. Encourages cooperation and coordination of efforts and efficient use of resources. Provides continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service. Performs related work as required. Requires regular and reliable attendance. Major Worker Characteristics Knowledge of City of Yakima policies and procedures and WA State Department of Health food service standards. Must be dependable; able to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment; be self-directed, highly motivated, demonstrate a positive attitude; be organized and skilled at meeting deadlines; have a sense of urgency to complete tasks accurately and thoroughly in a timely manner. Must possess ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and demands. Must be able to perform manual labor to keep kitchen, food service area, restrooms, and grounds clean and tidy. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, make change, maintain records, operate cash register, and utilize a Point of Sale system (POS) and credit card machine. Ability to prepare, cook and handle food products in a safe manner and in compliance with the standards of the WA State Department of Health. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, with employees and members of the public representing diverse education and background, utilizing well developed communication skills, both written and oral, with appropriate use of English, including but not limited to correct grammar and vocabulary. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; to consistently and continually demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and respect to individuals, groups and organizations representing a wide diversity of ethnicities, cultures, opinions, and beliefs; Ability to positively receive feedback and take direction is essential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
May work inside or outside with all weather extremes, be exposed to animals, insects, pollen, dust, dirt, water, needles, and/or drug paraphernalia, and/or rough terrain. Work involves using hands to handle, feel, grasp, keyboard or operate objects, or controls and reaching with hands and arms. Work requires frequent standing and sitting for excessive periods and walking on wet surfaces including concrete and/or rough terrain. Occasional bending/stooping/kneeling. Occasional heavy work includes lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs, ladders and other inclines while maintaining balance. Constant use of all senses including feeling/talking/ hearing/seeing while performing duties and while communicating with co-workers, general public and completing all tasks as assigned. May work alone or with others. Must be able to distinguish color and maintain long-term and short-term memory. UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
: Has regular contact with the public who at times may be angry, frustrated or upset. Requires work in heat and summer weather conditions. Will be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays. May require occasional travel from site to site.
