Turn your passion into action. We're launching a new fundraising team in Chicago, and we're looking for outgoing, motivated people who want to make a difference for animals while building communication, advocacy, and leadership skills. As a Face-to-Face Fundraiser / Canvasser , you'll represent Humane World for Animals, formerly known as the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International. For more than 70 years, Humane World for Animals has worked to create a better world for animals
- helping strengthen animal protection laws, rescue animals in crisis, combat cruelty, and protect animals around the world.
Your job is to bring that work directly to the public. You'll be out in the community talking with people about animal welfare, sharing the work Humane World for Animals is doing, and inspiring people to take action by becoming monthly donors. If you love animals, enjoy meeting people, and want work that feels connected to something you care about, you might be a great fit.
Fair warning:
this is definitely not a desk job. You'll spend most of your shift outside, walking, standing, and starting conversations with people face-to-face — rain or shine. If you'd rather be moving around Chicago, meeting people, and talking about a cause you care about than staring at a computer all day, you'll probably like it here. One more thing we want to be upfront about: This is a goal-oriented fundraising job. You'll speak with lots of people each day with the goal of inspiring them to become monthly donors for Humane World for Animals. You'll get paid training, ongoing coaching, and plenty of support from your team, but fundraising can be challenging. You'll hear "no" a lot, and not every conversation will turn into a donation. Your performance will be regularly coached and evaluated based on your ability to engage the public and successfully sign up new monthly donors. If you're resilient, motivated by clear goals, open to feedback, and get satisfaction from improving your results, you'll probably enjoy the challenge. Who we're looking for Come as you are. Schedule We're hiring for both full-time and part-time positions and are looking for people who can commit to a consistent weekly schedule. Fundraising shifts are approximately 7 hours and take place in person throughout the Chicago area. We'll discuss current shift times, weekly availability, and scheduling expectations with you during the hiring process. Before you apply You must be 18+ You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship You should be comfortable working outdoors, on your feet, and walking for most of your shift You need to be comfortable approaching and starting conversations with members of the public You need to be able to communicate confidently in English, since you'll be having lots of conversations throughout the day You should be able to commit to a reliable and consistent weekly schedule No fundraising experience? No problem. We'll provide paid training and ongoing coaching. What matters is being ready for the challenge: talking to lots of people, hearing "no," working toward fundraising goals, taking feedback, and continuing to improve.
