Job Description
Work to Reduce Plastic Pollution in Our Canvassing and Field Manager Positions Plastic pollution is littering our beaches, injuring wildlife, and threatening our health. An often overlooked source of this pollution is the tiny plastic pellets used to manufacture plastic products. Each year, millions of these pellets get spilled or intentionally dumped into our waterways. The legislature recently took a first step to make dumping and spilling these plastic pellets illegal by defining them as a form of pollution. Now, Illinois PIRG is working to convince the legislature to hold companies accountable to stop this pollution at its source. We're hiring canvassers and field managers in our Chicago office to educate the public about this issue, raise critical funds, and generate the visibility necessary to influence local decision-makers. As a canvasser this summer you will: Educate and engage citizens on a campaign to make real change on pressing environmental and public interest issues Develop essential communication and political advocacy skills Build membership and raise money for nonprofit groups in your community Earn leadership opportunities, supervising and managing staff in the field Gain the experience and connections needed to launch your career in nonprofit and policy work We are looking for: We are seeking hard-working individuals with good communication skills and a passion for social change.
