Job Description
Public Services Specialist Blue Mountain Humane Society is seeking a compassionate, patient, and customer-focused Public Services Specialist to join our team. As the first point of contact for our community, you'll help people navigate adoptions, lost and found pets, owner surrenders, pet reclaims, dog licensing, and other shelter services. This is a fast-paced role where no two days are alike. You'll work with people from all walks of life, often during emotional situations, while helping connect pets with loving homes. The ideal candidate is patient, organized, enjoys multitasking, communicates well, and is comfortable working with both people and animals. What You'll Do Welcome visitors and provide exceptional customer service. Answer phones, emails, and in-person inquiries. Learn all Blue Mountain Humane Society programs and services to confidently answer community questions. Guide families through the adoption process, review applications, facilitate pet introductions, and process adoptions. Process owner reclaims, lost and found reports, dog licenses, and owner surrender appointments. Follow intake procedures for stray animals. Maintain accurate records, adoption profiles, and shelter database information. Process payments and balance the daily cash drawer. Safely handle, leash, and walk dogs and assist with cats and other companion animals as needed. What We're Looking For Patient, compassionate, and professional. Comfortable working with people experiencing a variety of situations and emotions. Able to multitask and stay organized in a busy environment. A strong communicator with excellent customer service skills. Comfortable learning multiple shelter programs, policies, and procedures. Confident handling dogs and cats of various sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Qualifications Previous customer service experience preferred Experience working with animals is preferred but not required Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn multiple software programs Valid driver's license preferred. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic shelter environment. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to safely handle dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments. Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and work in indoor and outdoor environments.
