This role is vital in ensuring that our product offerings meet customer demand, industry trends, and seasonal cycles while optimizing profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in supply chain management, vendor relations, and category management, with a passion for horticulture and outdoor living products. As a key leader within our team, you will drive business growth through innovative product development, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration. Duties Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with business goals, leveraging industry trends and data analysis to optimize inventory levels and product mix. Manage supplier relationships through contract negotiation, vendor management, and performance evaluation to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and reliable supply chain operations. Oversee purchasing activities using merchandising software and data mining tools to analyze sales trends, demand planning, and pricing strategies. Coordinate with logistics teams to streamline supply chain processes, improve inventory control, and reduce lead times across multiple channels including e-commerce platforms. Conduct financial analysis related to profit & loss statements, pricing models, and procurement contracts to maximize margins and support strategic planning initiatives. Lead category management efforts by analyzing sales data with Nielsen tools and other analytics platforms to identify growth opportunities and optimize product assortment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as marketing, sales, product development, and finance to align merchandising strategies with overall business requirements. Experience Proven experience in supply chain management, procurement, or category management within retail or wholesale environments—preferably in outdoor living or horticulture sectors. Demonstrated vendor contract negotiation skills coupled with supplier management experience to foster strong vendor relationships. Knowledge of industry trends related to gardening products, outdoor living goods, e-commerce logistics, and demand planning methodologies. Experience managing P&L responsibilities with a focus on pricing strategies and financial analysis to drive profitability. Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead process improvements and implement supply chain analytics initiatives. Effective team leadership capabilities combined with cross-functional communication skills to manage stakeholder expectations and foster collaboration. Potential path to a management partnership for the right candidate. 2 years proven buying history and knowledge of plants in Central Texas.
