Job Description
Parts & Service Associate - Marine Parts, Accessories & Retail Merchandising At Custom Marine, we're looking for a motivated, organized, and customer-focused Parts & Service Associate to join our parts department. This role blends parts counter operations, inventory management, and retail merchandising with hands-on customer service — ideal for someone who enjoys helping boat owners find the right parts, accessories, and upgrades for their boats. This position is a great fit for candidates with backgrounds in marine parts, boat parts, automotive parts, powersports, equipment retail, or general retail merchandising. You'll help manage outboard motor parts and rigging inventory, support our service technicians, and build an inviting showroom that drives accessory sales. Qualifications & Skills Marine experience preferred, but not required — we welcome candidates from automotive, powersports, equipment, or retail parts backgrounds as well Experience with parts lookup, parts diagrams, service manuals, and parts numbering systems Familiarity with inventory management software, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and shop management software Strong understanding of retail merchandising principles: product placement, signage, visual displays, and showroom organization Ability to identify sales opportunities and recommend accessories, upgrades, and add-on products Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills in a fast-paced retail environment Customer-service oriented with excellent communication and phone etiquette Basic mechanical knowledge of outboard motors and marine engines is a plus Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a warehouse/stockroom setting ResponsibilitiesParts & Inventory Management Order parts for outboard motor repairs, boat rigging, and marine accessories Verify part numbers, availability, pricing, and lead times with vendors and suppliers Receive, inspect, label, and stock incoming parts inventory Maintain accurate inventory counts and an organized parts stockroom Track backorders and proactively follow up with suppliers Process warranty parts returns and core returns Retail Merchandising & Accessory Sales Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing parts showroom Build attractive product displays and point-of-sale merchandising to drive accessory sales Merchandise seasonal products, boating essentials, and high-demand marine accessories Monitor inventory levels and identify opportunities to expand the accessories lineup Recommend add-on products, upgrades, and boating accessories that fit customer needs Help create a retail environment that feels inviting, professional, and easy to shop Technician & Service Department Support Pull and stage parts for technician work orders Ensure parts are billed correctly to repair orders Help minimize technician downtime by proactively managing commonly used parts inventory Customer Sales & Support Assist walk-in and phone customers with marine parts lookup, sales, and recommendations Provide knowledgeable guidance on marine parts, accessories, and boat maintenance products Process sales transactions, returns, and special orders Deliver friendly, helpful, solution-oriented customer service Administrative Duties Use shop management software to create purchase orders and invoices Maintain vendor relationships and compare pricing across suppliers Assist with inventory audits and monthly reporting Answer phone calls related to parts inquiries and availability What We're Looking For We're looking for a parts and service associate who combines strong operational and inventory skills with a retail and sales mindset.
