Job Description
The MRO Specialist is responsible for managing the inventory, purchasing, organization, and availability of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies required to support safe and reliable operations in a food manufacturing facility. This position works closely with the Maintenance, Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Warehouse teams to ensure critical parts are available when needed while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and cost control. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and familiar with maintenance parts, industrial equipment, and inventory management in a manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Maintenance Parts & Inventory Management Maintain accurate inventory of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and general maintenance spare parts. Monitor inventory levels and establish appropriate minimum/maximum stock quantities and reorder points. Identify critical and high-use spare parts to minimize equipment downtime. Organize and maintain the maintenance storeroom to ensure parts are clean, labeled, accessible, and properly stored. Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventory checks and investigate discrepancies. Maintain accurate part numbers, descriptions, manufacturers, specifications, and storage locations. Identify obsolete, excess, damaged, or slow-moving inventory and recommend appropriate disposition. Purchasing & Supplier Coordination Prepare purchase requisitions and purchase orders for maintenance parts, tools, and supplies. Obtain quotations and compare pricing, availability, lead times, and supplier options. Coordinate with approved suppliers to expedite critical or emergency parts. Maintain effective relationships with vendors and monitor supplier performance. Identify alternative or equivalent parts when the specified item is unavailable, while obtaining appropriate maintenance/engineering approval. Track outstanding orders and communicate expected delivery dates to maintenance personnel. Maintenance Support Work closely with maintenance technicians and supervisor to identify parts requirements for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Support planned maintenance activities by ensuring required parts are available before scheduled work begins. Assist in identifying parts needed for equipment repairs and maintenance projects. Research equipment manuals, manufacturer information, and part specifications when necessary. Maintain accurate records of parts used on equipment and maintenance work orders. Help reduce equipment downtime by ensuring critical spare parts are readily available. CMMS / Inventory System Maintain accurate parts and inventory information in the CMMS, ERP, or inventory management system. Create and update part records, including descriptions, manufacturers, part numbers, costs, suppliers, and locations. Issue parts to maintenance work orders and ensure inventory transactions are completed accurately. Review maintenance history and usage data to improve stocking levels and purchasing decisions. Assist with reporting on inventory value, usage, shortages, obsolete parts, and purchasing activity. Food Safety, Quality & Safety Follow all company food safety, GMP, HACCP, sanitation, quality, and workplace safety requirements. Ensure maintenance parts and supplies are stored in a manner that prevents contamination or damage. Follow procedures for lubricants, chemicals, tools, and other materials that may affect food safety. Maintain a clean and organized maintenance storeroom in accordance with facility standards. Report unsafe conditions, damaged parts, or potential food-safety risks promptly. Participate in safety, food-safety, and quality training as required. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. 2+ years of experience in maintenance parts, inventory control, warehouse operations, purchasing, or a related manufacturing environment. Experience in a food manufacturing or other industrial manufacturing environment preferred. Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance components. Experience using a CMMS, ERP, or computerized inventory management system preferred. Strong organizational and inventory-control skills. Ability to read equipment manuals, parts catalogs, and technical specifications. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and email. Strong communication and vendor-management skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple requests in a fast-paced production environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with maintenance storeroom management. Experience with SAP, Maximo, Fiix, Maintenance Connection, or another
CMMS/ERP
system. Knowledge of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) inventory. Experience with cycle counting and inventory optimization. Knowledge of food manufacturing GMPs, HACCP, and food safety requirements. Technical certification or maintenance-related training is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift materials. Ability to safely lift and move parts and supplies as required, typically up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include temperature variations, noise, dust, moisture, and food-processing equipment. Ability to wear required PPE and follow all facility safety requirements. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Maintenance parts availability. Inventory accuracy. Stockout frequency. Storeroom organization and compliance. Work Environment This position is primarily based in a food manufacturing facility and maintenance storeroom. The Maintenance Parts Specialist will regularly interact with maintenance technicians, production personnel, engineering, purchasing, warehouse personnel, and external suppliers.Pay:
