Job Description

Application Deadline Extended to June 1, 2026 The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Aquatics Specialist (Non-Career) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide instruction in swim and serve as a lifeguard at assigned swimming facilities. You'll teach swim skills at all levels and supervise the conduct of swimmers in order to maintain health and safety standards. See the full job description here: Senior Aquatics Specialist (Non-Career) A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: A minimum of two (2) summer/seasons in lifeguard or swim-instruction experience in the organized recreational or educational program dealing with swim instruction, lifeguarding, or coaching. Other requirements include possession of a valid Water Safety Instruction card which requires an Advanced Life-Saving Certificate and successful completion of first-aid and CPR training. Applications must be received by Monday, June 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM PT and must include a completed application, all required attachments listed below, and responses to any supplemental questions. Please note that resumes are not a substitute for a completed application. •If you do not answer the supplemental questions accurately you will be automatically disqualified.•Applications are available in alternative formats (audio-format, braille, large print, electronic text, etc.) upon request to ada@berkeleyca.gov . Please allow 10 days for production of the material in an alternative format. The exam process will include, but may not be limited to: Application review for minimum qualifications (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the administrative review date) Review of Supplemental Questionnaire Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
