Job Overview We are a thriving plant nursery dedicated to offering our customers a wide selection of high-quality plants. As a Sales Associate you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, promoting sales within the nursery department, and assisting with stock management, maintaining cleanliness, and plant care. This position involves engaging with customers, answering their inquiries, assisting with product selection, and ensuring a pleasant shopping experience. The Nursery Sales Associate plays a vital role in maintaining a well-organized and fully stocked nursery area.
Purpose and Description Main Responsibilities:
Customer Interaction:
Greet customers in a friendly and approachable manner. Engage in conversations to understand their needs, offer recommendations, and provide accurate information about various plants, trees, and gardening products. Maintain a friendly and knowledgeable demeanor to create a positive customer experience.
Sales and Closing:
Utilize product knowledge to guide customers in making appropriate purchases. Assist customers through the buying process, handling transactions efficiently, and closing sales. Schedule deliveries and plant installations.
Product Location:
Direct customers to the appropriate areas of the nursery to find specific plants or gardening items they are seeking.
Plant Expertise:
Be knowledgeable about different plant types, their care requirements, growth patterns, plant placement, and the specific conditions they thrive in. Offer advice and tips to customers on plant selection and care.
Load Assistance:
Help customers load their purchases into their vehicles, ensuring that items are securely placed and protected during transportation.
Payment Handling:
Process customer payments accurately using point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash, credit cards, or other acceptable payment methods.
Maintaining Cleanliness:
Regularly tidy and organize the work area, keeping the nursery department clean, and ensuring that aisles are clear and safe for customers.
Stock Management:
Monitor inventory levels and restock nursery plants and displays as needed to ensure a visually appealing and fully stocked sales area.
Plant Care:
Assist in watering, pruning, fertilizing, labeling, and maintaining the health and appearance of nursery plants to present them in the best condition to customers.
Customer Assistance:
Address customer concerns, inquiries, and complaints in a professional and courteous manner, resolving issues to the best of your ability or directing them to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
Upselling and Promotions:
Suggest additional products or complementary items to customers, increasing sales opportunities and promoting special offers or promotions. Key Performance Metrics Customer Satisfaction (measured through feedback surveys, ratings, or direct feedback from customers regarding their interactions with the sales associate) Sales Conversion Rate Average Purchase Transaction Value Product Knowledge Assessment (determined through periodic assessments or quizzes to evaluate the sales associate's knowledge of plants, gardening products, and their ability to provide accurate information to customers) Customer Assistance Response Time (the time it takes for the sales associate to address customer inquiries or concerns) Stock Management Accuracy (determined through number of times inventory levels are overstocked or run out) Plant Care Quality (assessed through visual inspection) Upselling Success Rate (percentage of times the sales associate successfully upsells or promotes additional products to customers) Payment Handling Accuracy (assessed through number of errors in a given time frame) Customer Complaint Resolution (number of customer complaints and how effectively the sales associate resolves them to maintain customer satisfaction) Customer Interaction Frequency (how many customers the sales associate interacts with during their shifts) Cleanliness and Organization (through regular evaluations of the work area's cleanliness and organization to ensure a positive shopping experience for customers)
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications & Educational Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Proven experience in a retail or customer service-oriented environment, preferably in a nursery or gardening-related setting Knowledge of different plants, trees, and gardening products Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong customer service orientation and the ability to work well with diverse customer needs Physical ability to lift and carry heavy objects, including plants and gardening supplies Basic mathematical skills for processing payments accurately Attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak seasons Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and carry 15-20 lbs repeatedly Ability to work outside in 100+ °F temperatures This Sales Associate position at our plant nursery offers a great opportunity to be part of a vibrant team and make a difference in our customers' lives.
