SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Event Security staff are responsible for supporting a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment for patrons, performers, staff, and volunteers at the Visalia Fox Theatre during scheduled events. This is a guest-facing role that emphasizes professionalism, situational awareness, customer service, and de-escalation in a live performance setting. This position is event-based, and hours vary depending on the performance schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor venue entrances, exits, and interior/exterior areas for safety concerns, unauthorized access, or disruptive behavior. Perform bag checks and visual screenings at entry points when required by the event or venue policy. Greet and assist guests by providing directions, seating guidance, and information regarding theatre policies. Maintain awareness of crowd behavior and promptly report or respond to potential safety issues. Respond appropriately to incidents, including medical emergencies, patron disturbances, intoxication, or non-compliance with venue rules. Escort patrons from the facility when necessary, using tact, professionalism, and de-escalation techniques. Enforce venue policies related to restricted areas, prohibited items, photography, and smoking. Coordinate with ushers, box office staff, concessions, operations, volunteers, and external emergency responders as needed. Complete incident reports and shift documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Conduct pre-event and post-event security walkthroughs and sweeps. Follow all organizational policies and applicable local fire, life safety, and emergency procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Must meet the minimum age and eligibility requirements to perform assigned duties under California law. Prior experience in event security, venue operations, hospitality, or a related role preferred. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to remain calm, professional, and respectful in high-pressure or confrontational situations. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.
Preferred:
California Guard Card (preferred but not required). CPR, First Aid, and AED certification. Experience working in performing arts venues or live event environments. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English a plus).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (typically 4-8 hours per shift). Ability to navigate stairs, crowds, and varying venue layouts safely. Ability to lift or carry up to 25 pounds as needed. Exposure to varying lighting levels, sound volumes, and indoor/outdoor conditions during events. Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with applicable law.
APPEARANCE & UNIFORM
Event Security personnel are expected to maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance while on duty. The employer will provide a grey polo shirt or branded uniform top to be worn during assigned shifts. Employees are responsible for providing their own black slacks and closed-toe black shoes suitable for general workplace use and safety. A security badge or branded identification will be provided and must be visibly worn while on duty. Radios and any required safety or communication equipment will be provided by the employer and must be used as directed.
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
This is a part-time, event-based position. Work hours vary depending on the event schedule and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Hourly Pay:
$18.00-$22.00 per hour, based on experience and relevant certifications. This position is classified as non-exempt and is subject to all applicable California wage and hour laws, including overtime, meal and rest periods, and paid sick leave.
