PART-TIME WINTER POSITION
POTENTIAL FOR FULL-TIME HOURS IN BUSY SEASON
Are you the person who actually likes machines ? Maybe you've worked on small engines, cars, trucks, tractors, ATVs, motorcycles, farm equipment, construction equipment — or you've always been the person your friends call when something mechanical isn't working right. That's the kind of person we're looking for. Midwest Equipment Rental and Sales is a growing, locally owned equipment rental company in DeKalb, IL. We rent and sell everything from skid steers, mini excavators, lifts and trailers to lawn & garden equipment, concrete equipment, generators and more. We've also expanded into party rentals and propane. We're looking for a mechanically inclined, hands-on person to join our team. This is a part-time position through the winter , with the potential for full-time hours during our busy spring, summer and fall seasons for the right person. This is NOT a typical retail or desk job. You'll spend part of your day working with customers and paperwork, but you'll also be around equipment, inspecting machines, moving equipment, identifying problems and helping keep our rental fleet ready to go. What You'll Do Check rental equipment in and out and make sure paperwork is accurate Inspect returned equipment for damage, wear, leaks and obvious mechanical problems Make sure equipment is clean, fueled and ready for the next customer Operate and learn a wide variety of equipment Identify basic mechanical issues and communicate problems before equipment goes back out Perform basic maintenance, adjustments and minor repairs as your experience allows Help load and unload equipment and trailers Keep the shop, yard and equipment organized Assist customers in selecting the right equipment for their job Handle rental contracts, payments and customer documentation Assist with party rental and propane operations Help with whatever needs to get done in a small, growing business
We're Looking For Someone Who:
Is mechanically inclined and genuinely enjoys working on machines Is comfortable using hand tools and basic shop equipment Can look at a machine and notice when something doesn't look, sound or operate correctly Is interested in learning how different types of equipment work Is comfortable getting their hands dirty Is dependable and takes pride in doing things correctly Can troubleshoot problems instead of immediately giving up Pays attention to details Can work independently without needing to be told what to do every few minutes Is comfortable talking to customers and explaining basic equipment operation Is willing to learn equipment they've never operated before Can safely move, load and unload equipment and trailers
The Right Background Could Include:
Small Engine Repair | Automotive | Diesel | Farm Equipment | Construction Equipment | Heavy Equipment | Welding | Fabrication | HVAC | Powersports | Agriculture | Maintenance | Equipment Rental You do not need to have worked in equipment rental before. We're much more interested in someone who has mechanical ability, curiosity and a good work ethic than someone who simply has rental-counter experience. If you've spent your free time working on lawnmowers, snowblowers, cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, ATVs or other equipment , that's relevant experience. If you grew up around a farm, shop or garage and you're the type of person who naturally wants to figure out "how does this thing work?" , we'd like to hear from you. Schedule Part-time during the winter , with the opportunity for full-time hours during our busy season for the right candidate. We are looking for someone who wants to become a valuable part of the operation, not someone who is simply looking for a temporary job. Compensation & Benefits $18.00-$20.00/hour based on experience Potential for full-time hours during peak season Overtime opportunities during busy periods Paid Time Off 401(k) Health insurance plan Employee rental discount On-the-job training Requirements Valid U.S. driver's license Reliable transportation Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Ability to work around equipment, trailers and in a shop/yard environment Willingness to learn and safely operate a variety of rental equipment Interested? When you apply, tell us about your mechanical experience. Don't just send "I'm interested." Tell us what you've worked on — cars, small engines, tractors, farm equipment, construction equipment, motorcycles, welding, fabrication, maintenance, etc. Formal experience isn't required; we're interested in what you actually know how to do. If you're a mechanically minded person who likes equipment, enjoys figuring things out and wants an opportunity to grow with a small company, we'd like to hear from you.
