Job Description

At Jamesville General Store, we are more than just a store—we are a central hub for our community. From daily essentials to friendly morning conversations, we take pride in serving our neighbors with warmth, honesty, and reliability. We are looking for a dependable, customer-focused General Store Associate to join our team and help us keep things running smoothly every day. Position Summary As a General Store Associate, you will be the face of our store. Because we are a small-town operation, this role offers plenty of variety. On any given day, you will welcome regulars, operate the register, stock shelves, track inventory, and ensure the store remains clean, safe, and welcoming.
Key Responsibilities Customer Care:
Greet every customer with a friendly attitude, assist shoppers in finding items, answer questions, and build lasting community relationships.
Cashiering & Checkout:
Accurately operate the Point of Sale (POS) register, process cash, card, and check transactions, and balance the drawer at shift changes.
Stocking & Merchandising:
Receive shipments, unload delivery trucks, stock shelves, rotate food inventory (FIFO), and ensure price tags/labels are clear and accurate.
Store Maintenance:
Keep sales floors, counters, aisles, stockrooms, and restrooms clean, organized, and fully sanitized.
Opening/Closing Procedures:
Perform daily store opening or closing duties, including securing entrances, setting up morning displays, and preparing end-of-day reports.
Basic Food Preparation:
Assist with coffee service, deli counters, or bakery displays while adhering to food safety standards.
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
Previous retail, customer service, or food service experience is a plus, but willingness to learn is most important.
People Skills:
Positive, friendly demeanor with a strong commitment to serving local community members.
Basic Math & Tech Skills:
Ability to handle money accurately and operate standard register/POS systems.
Reliability:
Punctual, honest, and dependable with flexible availability (including weekends, early mornings, or evenings).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, and lift up to 40 lbs comfortably.
Pay:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
