Job Description

Summary/Objectives The purpose of this position is to perform job tasks related to the day to day operations of the Pet's Store Next Door retail store, including providing exceptional customer service both in person and by phone, processing transactions through the point of sale register system and taking payments, cleaning and organizing the store and product displays, receiving and unloading product deliveries, and stocking and taking physical inventory counts of products. Essential Functions Customer Service Respectfully and courteously communicate with customers, with a friendly and professional demeanor. Greet, offer assistance to, and be available to assist all customers at the store; both on the sales floor and at the register counter. Offer, and upon request, provide carry-out service for all items weighing more than 10 lbs., and with multiple or bulky items. Answer incoming telephone calls utilizing proper telephone etiquette. Take and route messages for other staff members. Handle basic sub-professional questions regarding products and animal care in accordance with hospital policies. Appropriately direct other questions and communication to a veterinarian, or other staff members. Utilize effective listening skills to obtain all necessary information from the customer. Discern any potential customer problems, complaints, or questions and handle them appropriately. Process transactions accurately in accordance with established procedures and policies, including regular sales transactions, product returns, coupons and discounts, customer information entry and verification including prescriptions and customer history, and taking payments by cash, check, and credit card and making correct change. Balance and close out the register at the end of the shift, recording accurate counts of all payment totals. Product Inventory and Displays Receives and unloads product orders in an organized and timely manner, accurately counts and records quantities and condition of products received, and stocks product in the appropriate location. Stocks and organizes product displays in a neat, orderly and uniform manner. Accurately performs and records physical inventory counts of products as directed. Cleans and maintains the neat appearance of the store and product displays as needed, including sweeping and mopping the floors, vacuuming carpets, dusting shelves and product, washing windows, and taking out trash and recycling Complete and initial checklist(s).
Requirements Education and Experience:
Education equivalent to a high school diploma or general education degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation:
$17-19/hour
