Asheville Humane Society Thrift Store Schedule:
Part-time, averaging 15-20 hours per week. Hours may be scheduled across two, three, or four days per week based on store needs and will include rotating weekend shifts.

Position Summary The Thrift Store Sales Associate is a part-time, front-line customer service role that supports the day-to-day operations of the Asheville Humane Society Thrift Store. This position primarily provides cashier coverage and assists with sales floor upkeep, while also supporting the daily flow and processing of donations and interacting with customers, donors, and volunteers. Team members may be cross-trained in other areas of store operations to provide coverage and support as needed. This position helps create a welcoming environment for customers and donors, supports and encourages volunteers, and contributes to maintaining a safe, clean, and positive working and shopping environment for everyone. What You'll Do Provide friendly and helpful customer service to shoppers, donors, and volunteers. Operate the cash register and accurately process cash and card transactions. Assist customers with questions about merchandise, pricing, store operations, and other general inquiries. Answer store phone calls, check voicemail, route messages, and escalate questions or concerns when appropriate. Assist with accepting, processing, stocking, and merchandising donated items. Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and overall appearance of the sales floor and donation intake areas, including handling trash and recycling. Support store sales, promotions, and special events. Help guide and support volunteers by assigning tasks, providing direction and feedback, and recognizing their contributions. Respond professionally to customer, donor, and volunteer concerns and involve Thrift Store leadership when additional assistance is needed. Cross-train in other areas of store operations and provide coverage as needed. Identify and report accidents, unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, or other issues to Thrift Store leadership. Represent Asheville Humane Society and its mission positively and enthusiastically when interacting with customers, donors, volunteers, and the community. Requirements High school diploma or GED. Previous cashier and customer service experience. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to provide excellent customer service and handle challenging interactions professionally and tactfully. Ability to work effectively with people of diverse ages and backgrounds, including customers, donors, volunteers, coworkers, and management. Good judgment and the ability to appropriately handle problems, decisions, and confidential information. Dependable and punctual, with the ability to reliably work scheduled shifts. Weekend availability. Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position. Physical Requirements This is an active retail position that requires regular movement throughout the store and donation areas.
Employees must be able to:
Stand and walk for extended periods during a shift. Bend, reach, stoop, and perform other movements associated with stocking, merchandising, and processing donations. Regularly lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 35 pounds. Safely perform the physical tasks associated with receiving, organizing, and moving donated merchandise.
