Job Description

Position Summary :
Assists with managing the day-to-day operations of the IAM Thrift Store. This includes communication and interaction with staff, volunteers, customers, and donors; encouraging, supporting, and challenging staff and volunteers; processing donations; maintaining the sales floor; facilitating a safe and healthy working and shopping environment; generating funds to support IAM. The position must support all IAM board policies and embrace IAM's core values.
General Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Assist the Thrift Store Manager and Assistant Manager with the day-to-day operations of the
Thrift Store:
sorting and pricing donations; managing the rotation of items; disposing of unsold items in a timely fashion; coordinate and oversee the pick-up of donations. Assist with the management of the store in the Manager's absence.
  • General upkeep of the store including identifying and reporting maintenance or unsafe conditions issues to the Thrift Store Manager.
  • Provide direction and oversight of staff and volunteers in accordance with IAM policies and applicable laws, work with Volunteer Coordinator to ensure adequate coverage; support volunteers and staff on the sales floor with customer concerns, pricing issues, etc.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of operations in the absence of the
Thrift Store Manager:
verify accuracy of all banking transactions including sales receipts and deposits; supervise volunteers.
  • Continually assess factors that contribute to the store's success; analyze current sales and current inventory to provide projections and recommendations; implement unique, regular store promotions.
  • Works 40 hours per week.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Education:
High school diploma
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years retail experience retail setting or business. Customer service and volunteer management skills are a plus.
Skills and abilities:
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Proficient utilization of computers, POS systems, and credit card processing systems (PCI DSS compliance)
  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail
  • Proven ability to supervise and manage a team of staff and volunteers with a focus on working in and promoting a team-based environment
  • Able to work under pressure and multi-task
  • Flexibility, creativity, positivity, and punctuality
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals
  • Capable of reconciling daily receipts and performing bookkeeping duties as required
  • Able to work as a collaborative team member in delivering quality customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to make good decisions both independently and collaboratively
Work Relationship and Scope :
Reports directly to the thrift store manager. This position interacts regularly with staff, volunteers, donors, and customers. Reports to the executive director in the absence of the store manager. Must support IAM's mission, vision and values to serve area residents in need with respect and dignity.

Working Conditions:
Job Conditions/Work Location:
Work mainly performed in the Thrift Store environment assisting moving, packing, and carrying bags and boxes. Some work inside of IAM's main facility and pick up and/or delivery locations. Some stationary work in an office environment using a computer. Physical requirements :

Required walking and standing for long periods of time, sitting, and lifting boxes and bags up to 50 lbs. Sorting work includes standing in the same place for a long period of time, leaning over bins and holding arms out to properly examine new donations. Work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
Additional requirements:
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license, clean driving record, and pass a background check. Must be willing to submit to a drug test.

$20.00 per hour
