Job Description

About the Role The Thrift Store Clerk supports the day-to-day operations of JCI Thrift Store, including customer service, donation processing, merchandising, inventory, and volunteer coordination. This position helps keep the store organized, welcoming, and running smoothly while ensuring donations are processed appropriately and merchandise is ready for sale. What You'll Do Customer Service & Sales Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful assistance. Operate the cash register and process cash, credit, and other transactions. Answer questions about merchandise, pricing, and store policies. Assist customers with their needs and provide a positive shopping experience. Donation Processing Accept and receive donations from the public. Sort donations into appropriate categories, including clothing, furniture, and household goods. Direct donations to the appropriate processing areas. Dispose of or redirect unsellable items according to store policies. Move donations to the sales floor as needed. Merchandising & Inventory Organize and display merchandise in an attractive and organized manner. Restock shelves and racks throughout the day. Rotate merchandise to keep inventory fresh and seasonal. Maintain clean and organized sales, storage, and sorting areas. Volunteer Coordination Coordinate volunteer activities and assign tasks based on store needs. Help volunteers understand and follow store policies and procedures. Provide feedback and recognition to volunteers for their contributions. Store Operations Assist the Thrift Store Supervisor with daily store and warehouse operations. Help oversee store operations in the absence of the supervisor. Assist with maintaining an organized warehouse and ensuring donations are processed in a timely manner. What We're Looking For Age 18 or older. Able to work flexible hours. Strong communication skills with supervisors, coworkers, volunteers, and customers. Basic customer service skills. Ability to assist customers and respond to their needs. General knowledge of retail operations. Ability to follow established procedures. Dependable, organized, and able to work as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications One year of work experience, preferably in retail, customer service, or a related setting.
