Job Summary The Lead Adoption Advisor is an integral part of the Animal Humane New Mexico team, ensuring that animals entering our care are set up for the best possible outcomes. The position supports the Adoptions Manager by directing personnel and customer service issues to the appropriate in-house supervisors for response or resolution. During times, the Adoptions Manager is onsite, the position acts as a first line of contact and liaison to the department regarding adoption programs/services including but not limited to: lost and found pet service, adoption counseling, admissions assistance, microchipping, and rabies certificate programs. This position helps ensure associated personnel are providing a high level of quality service in meeting the performance standards as established by Animal Humane New Mexico. Lead Adoption Advisor must consistently model skills in outreach, compassionate communication, emotional regulation, and self-care. The Lead Adoptions Advisor must be able to manage the emotional aspect of end-of-life services and humane euthanasia and support others in the same way. Specific Duties 1. Maintains a high level of professionalism when representing Animal Humane New Mexico to the public in executing duties of counseling, educating, and promoting programs and services; and in the performance of intake and adoption of shelter animals. 2. Counsel potential adopters and guide the selection of an animal based on the household members, other resident animals, level of activity, physical environment, and other consideration factors. 3. Assist in ensuring the staff and volunteers maintain good public relations. 4. Help oversee and control situations that are potentially damaging to the professional image of Animal Humane New Mexico. 5. Educate the public and potential adopters about animal behavior and characteristics of which to be aware in dealing with shelter animals. 6. Assist in the education and training of staff and volunteers as directed by the Adoptions Manager. 7. Provide support to staff and volunteers that will encourage responsible and objective pet receiving, adoptions and lost and found service. 8. Serves as primary resource for adoption staff in the absence of the Adoptions Manager. 9. Serve as main point of contact for the dog walking team Sunday - Thursday, checking in with the lead on the number of walkers each day, if assistance is needed, or notes on animals that need to be sent to Behavior or Animal Care teams. 10. Help with the maintenance and update versions of the standard operating procedures, programs, and referral books. 12. Helps to ensure cleanliness standards in adoption areas & special cleaning tasks are completed and maintained. 13. Consult with Adoption Manager in recruiting, employing, training, and evaluating adoption staff and volunteers. 14. Help with the monitoring of programs that will increase adoptions and promote good public relations. 15. Provide reports as needed for Adoptions Operations Director or Administration staff on the statistics of programs. 16. Assists Adoption Manager with special projects. 17. Perform other duties as assigned by Adoption Manager Job Conditions This position is a full-time position Tuesday -Saturday . The position requires some schedule flexibility, with regular working days occasionally substituted for other days during events. The person must have an awareness of safety issues inherent in an environment in which animal bites/scratches pose a risk; the person in this position will occasionally be expected to lift up to 50 pounds. This position includes the possibility of some duties being performed outside, and as such exposure to inclement weather may occur; must tolerate moderate to loud noise levels. This position requires routine handling of dogs and cats, money, and cleaning chemicals. Contacts This position has contact with department employees, public, other department personnel, vendor patrons and other organizations. Will be responsible for supervision of adoption counselors, satellite staff and volunteers Job Requirements Education Requires a high school diploma, basic computer experience. and Fear Free certification. If Fear Free certification has not already been achieved, then it must be achieved within the first 30 days. Experience Typically requires one year's experience working with animals, the public and computers in a professional setting. Skills and Abilities Strong teamwork, customer service and management skills. Competent and humane animal handling. Animal Humane prohibits the possession, use or distribution of alcohol, cannabis, and unlawful illicit drugs by employees on Animal Humane's site and/or while doing business for Animal Humane. Animal Humane may perform drug and alcohol tests for any reason at any time including the following: pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, follow-up and random.
